President Warren departing next July
Here is the email she sent out for those that didn't receive it.

"Dear Members of the Kent State University Community,

With profound affection for the Kent State community and after deep reflection, I share the news today that I will depart my position as president of Kent State on July 1, 2019, at the end of my current contract term. I will not exercise my option for an additional year as president through 2020.

The years since I assumed this office in 2014 have been the most exciting and fulfilling of my professional life. Together we have created a Strategic Roadmap to a Distinctive Kent State in which we defined what it means for a public university to be a student-focused center of excellence and a force for positive change. We launched collective efforts to transform our campuses into beacons of learning for our communities, accelerated fundraising to record-breaking levels and strengthened our collective work as one university with eight unique and distinctive campuses.

Throughout my professional life, I have been driven to make a difference and to contribute to the transformative power of education to change lives. After spending my career making work my life's priority, I realize the time has come for me to shift my focus to family and personal considerations. This has not been an easy decision. I continue to be energized by the spirit of this community and the important initiatives we have advanced in recent years. I know that our leadership team will ensure that our momentum continues during this transition and beyond.

Much remains for us to do together in this academic year, and I will continue to work tirelessly toward the goals and objectives that will frame our work in the coming months. I am thankful for the support of all of you who lead and define this unique place of learning and discovery, and I look forward to supporting the Board of Trustees in the search for the next leader of Kent State.

The heart and soul of Kent State is bigger than any single individual. Here we embrace the diversity of people and ideas, defend creative expression, convene with respect and work together for the greater good. Our shared values live within all of us and will surely outlast me.

I will be forever grateful for this opportunity to lead such a loving and welcoming institution -- a university where all are valued and where the future of higher education is being transformed today for a brighter tomorrow. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for allowing me to share these special years together with each of you. Together, we are Golden Flashes Forever!

With warmest regards,
Bev"

Truly wonder what that means for athletics. She seemed to be a friend to the department, sad to see someone like that only last 4-5 years. Certainly hope her health is ok.

Not really sure I'd say she was a "friend" to the department. Remember the climate study the University spent a lot of money conducting a couple years ago? Turns out the athletic department scored significantly lower than staff across campus in all the categories (level of comfort in department, the experience of exclusionary behavior, unjust employment practices, unwanted sexual contact). Not sure what the President/University has done to remedy any of these issues reported. Hopefully the new president can tackle these issues and make the department a better place for its employees. The AD hasn't done anything to help ... it seems like he's more of the cause?

I didn’t hear any of that Kentastic, but if true that is reprehensible. Haven’t a couple upper-level admins been cut loose recently? Were they to blame?

When I called her a friend, I meant more along the lines of funding/budget/etc. She has been much more apt (at least it would appear) to allocate resources for coaches’ salaries, recruiting, in stadium graphics, scoreboard etc.

Then again maybe it just appears that way because her predescessor didn’t know a football from a hockey puck.

I remember being excited when she got hired. With her being a former athlete and coming from VCU, I thought she would do more to help athletics. Yes, funding for a couple of the teams, a few salaries and graphics are important, but the people (coaches & support staff) are who give their heart and soul to that place. Sadly, the climate study found they are miserable, being mistreated, abused and have major distrust in the administration. While she was a very nice woman, I'm excited for change and hoping someone can steer the ship in the right direction.

From what I know and saw of her on campus is that she is a student first type of president. Anytime she was out and about on campus if students called to her she would stop and talk or pose for a selfie with them. It seemed like she really wanted campus life to be better for the students. I don't know anyone in the athletic department but other department personnel didn't like being put on the back burner to students. Which seems crazy to me seeing how they wouldn't have jobs without the students.

You'd be amazed that many that work at universities don't get that.

There were plenty of complaints about the 10 year $1B plan. It came at the same time that employees were told that their health insurance rates would go up and a non essential hiring freeze. There was also doubt on getting pay raises which they did end up getting. What does amuse me is hearing complaints about the current buildings but then upset that the university is spending money on new buildings.

100% true. I worked at another university and was told that I didn't need to worry about students being happy. What mattered most was the department head's approval. Universities are as political, if not more so, than any corporation.

I agree. She was really great with the students. However, what is so great about many of the coaches at KSU is that they truly love what they do and do what they do because of the student-athletes. They have always put them first and wouldn't deal with all that they have dealt with if they didn't care about their athletes. If you look at its staff directory, KSU has five coaches who have been there over 10+ years, including a few over 20. It's impressive. I don't think they mind being on the "back burner."

I know Warren didn’t want to oust our antiquated AD until after the fundraising drive. At that point dropping football, leaving the MAC and firing the AD would be on the table. Hopefully the new President will hold Joel accountable.

Has anyone heard of any of the candidates that the search committee and search firm are looking at?

I can't seem to see anything and July is coming quickly.

Trevor Huffman produces a podcast. A recent episode might be interesting to fans who want to reminisce about the Elite 8 season, and to know what he thinks of the current state of KSU basketball. He wants to interview the President of KSU on the topic. Guess he should hurry.

Hope the link works:

$179,000..... That is absolutely crazy and an irresponsible use of taxpayer's money.
