The way this has played out over the last week really makes it look like Hart was a done deal and then the proverbial 'something' happened and everything fell apart. Who knows what the 'something' is (I suspect the hang up was probably overall athletics funding and facility improvements and/or the Pirate Club slinging their wang around again to make sure they didn't become part of the athletics department).

Hopefully Staton putting all of his eggs in the Hart basket doesn't mean we're stuck with Mo if this season ends with 2-4 wins.

Or maybe Hart would rather not be hired by a guy who may see the door in the next year. Your higher ups look like a strong possibilities to be cleaned out. Hart may just have decided not to go down with that ship.

Your chancellor has made some dumb moves, Hart would know that.

What idiot of a person would come in and fire Dave Hart. Hart just doesn’t want to work. That’s all it is.

So a guy makes nine bad decisions. You come in, you keeping number ten? Or do you go ahead and clean that out?

Further if you're Hart and trying to do a solid for a school and set them back up to succeed dealing with the fall out probably means a harder job for longer to right that skiff. The search kicks the can down the road till this summer, which could see a lot of changes. Hart still does the job and may end up being the one anyway. The only issue is your football coach. Fire him and hire a new guy? Then Hart's done his part and you just need a money raiser with good connections. Keep him one more year? Lose tickets, fire him and then let the new guy hire someone?

Staton isn’t going anywhere in the foreseeable future. Whatever ECU fans post, his job really isn’t in immediate danger. Regardless, there is no reason to fire Hart. Hart has an extensive track record, and if ECU hires a new chancellor there is a 99% chance that Hart would be more established and respected than them. I don’t really like Staton, but he hasn’t really done anything wrong at ECU besides extend compher as soon as he was hired and say some not very strategic things.

I really admire what y'all have built without power conference affiliation in such a state as North Carolina;

I also wouldn't be opposed to Bill Clark 05-stirthepot

Bill Clark is a very good coach. I'm not a UAB supporter per say, but an anti Alabama supporter. Which is my reason for UAB support. But I agree with you on that. His ties are deep in that area, so not sure if he would leave.

Clark has shown a ton of loyalty to UAB and vice versa, i'm not sure what his salary is but I would imagine it would take quite a bit to lure him away.

he has said privately he will not leave unless its for a major program that he thinks he can turn into a playoff contender. I think he will get that offer this year. ECU does not fit that description.

I really want to go young on this AD, unless we take Workman. For some reason, our fans get fixated on guys who they feel would love to spend the rest of their career here. I don't want anyone who's dream is to finish up in ENC. I don't mind taking someone who hasn't been the man somewhere else. Take a Deputy AD from a turnaround program like UCF and provide for him the platform to make his name and go somewhere bigger (and give us a buyout).

I don't agree that Jones wouldn't work at ECU or to avoid him because he's on the way down. He's the only Vols coach who enjoyed some success since Phillip Fulmer. Jones did win all three bowls that Tennessee played in during his tenure including the January 1, 2016 Outback Bowl. He can recruit well and bring along quality assistants. The SEC is a tough league. Remember Bret Bielema who left Wisconsin for Arkansas? We need all of our conference football programs stronger and more competitive and he would get it done IMO. I would welcome him to the AAC at any of our programs.

i dont think the 1st year of a coach at a certain school should define them, so removing the 1st year at UT and Cincy ..he has had 8 good seasons to only 1 bad season..and is currently part of the machine that is bama

he would probably have ecu a regular, 7,8,9 win team and for ecu that would a great situation

He sounds like another Skip Holtz. Fwiw, ECU fired two coaches that routinely got them 7, 8 and 9 win teams and one of those guys was an alum. Of course I am talking about Steve Logan and Ruff McNeill. .

I think that the next hire at ECU is going to be a proven commodity like that Mike Houston at JMU, because he is familiar with North Carolina recruiting.

Butch is a decent hire. Solid coach (not near good enough to go up against SEC coaches week in and out) rah rah kind of guy that comes off as pretty cheesy. Hard worker, good recruiter but not my favorite coach that came through here.

If Butch is hired, he will most likely get ECU back to a 8 to 9 win seasons.

Butch will get it done with recruiting and hard work. I liked him at UC despite his hokey sayings. It will take him a year to install his system, so do not expect anything next year. Without a doubt, you will see a difference in recruiting as soon as he is hired.

I'm hoping for Houston. Either way, ECU is still somehow currently ranked #2 in AAC in recruiting despite losing 2 recruits today after coach Mo's firing.

The two we lost were two of the worst rated and worst offer lists. Helped our average a good bit actually.

I see that it updated after my post but at least our average went up. If we can get a good coach here soon (Houston), he can come in & replace those low level recruits and it will be a blessing in disguise.
