We didn't have our first winning football season until 84. I'll never forget the excitement when we went to Johnson City, TN and beat ETSU to finally get over that hump for the first time in forever.

And then, Dan was simultaneously using his contacts to advance Marshall's purposes at every turn that he could and building his Creative Sports Network business (which would later be bought out by ESPN, and landing himself a VP chair with the quickly-growing network).

And the late Sonny Randle deserves most of the praise for our 1st winning season in 1984, the last winning season before that was 20 years before in 1964.

Randle is the one that recruited Carl Fodor, Keith Baxter SR, Rob Bowers, Billy Hynus and more.

I remember the feeling of beating ETSU in Johnson City and feeling for the 1st time we could actually win in football. And it wasn't like we were headed to the playoffs or anything, Marshall was 6-5 that season. The week before though was almost as big of a win than beating ETSU. Marshall was 4-5 going to Normal IL and playing Illinois State, lose that game and it ensures another losing season but Marshall came away with a 10-3 win

This has been in the works now for about 20 months. A lot of wrangling and getting things in order before it was announced. Most people believed that the logical location would have been the old ACF lot. The thing is Carl Icahn owns that lot and wants a king's ransom for it.

There has been talk of a baseball stadium for the past 40 years. But the thing is Mike Hamrick has never talked about this in public in the 9 years he has been AD. It reminds me when the late Dr Kopp took over the Marshall presidency, one of the 1st things he done was nix the god awful IPF they announced the year before. It was eventually built right.

Carl ichan is a terrible man in my profession. He is about one of three/four names that everyone hates. There aren’t that many guys who have run a once proud airline into the dust on purpose. Not just once but twice. Ruined so many careers to make himself hundreds of millions of dollars.

I work at the Icahn School of Medicine. And I support that message.
