RE: WKU picked 1st by the Coaches
Saw the scrimmage at Hilltopper Hysteria tonight. Some of the new guys looked a bit raw to me. But there is size, talent, athleticsm and quickness abound.

The player nobody is talking about that will have a huge impact for us this year is Josh Anderson. He was a top 100 recruit last year then had to sit the first half of the season due to some kind of eligibility hickup. He showed flashes of brilliance but just didn't have time to get acclimated to D1 ball before the brutal conference race.

From what I saw tonight, that will not be the case this year. Dude is SOOOO quick. Has developed his shot. Made a couple of jaw dropping passes. I think he has made some MAJOR improvement from last season.

Our season hinges on two questions. #1 Can Josh Anderson play the point at the D1 level? #2 Can the freshmen get acclimated to D1 ball in time for conference play?

If the answers to those two questions are yes then conference USA will have a LOT of trouble with us.

Oh my goodness. LMAO.

There is a very, very high probability that MT goes 0-11 in the non-conference portion of the schedule. We are going to have a top 10 - probably a top 5 non-conference schedule. There isn't a single team we play that will have a losing record.

Our three easiest games included two teams that both won 23 games last year (Toledo and Lipscomb). Charleston Southern might be winnable. Maybe.

Right on cue! Thanks! I will definitely bring this post back up when we win our first, of several, OOC games. As in - I believe that we aren't going 0-11, nor are we going 1-10. We haven't played a single exhibition yet and you're on your rant about the "very, very high probability that MT goes 0-11 in non-conference" ... sure, let's not even give the team a chance. LOL

What I say has absolutely no bearing on this team's chances.

We lost everything. We had one guy who was the returning leading scorer that could have carried the team through a few wins and he got kicked off the team.

I will offer you a little nugget. One of the assistant coaches made his way to our tailgate. Told our tailgate that we are going to be really bad this year. But you keep those blue blinders on bud. 03-lmfao

By the way, I'm one of the few in Raider nation who said that we would repeat last year. This year. Nope. We will be lucky to win more than one or two non-conf games this year. It's a single digit win season. Sorry to have to break it to you.

Oh well. Fun while it lasted I guess. When does baseball season start?

Name a mid major team to have continued success for 7 years? I don't think you'll come up with many. You enjoyed it while it lasted. Now you rebuild. Nobody stays at the top forever.

Butler, Wichita, Gonzaga, VCU, San Diego St, St. Marys, Dayton. Those are the ones off the top of my head.

You really consider Wichita and Gonzaga mid majors? Anyway, you've named 7 out of like 150. It's pretty rare. And I'd argue VCU ain't so hot lately.

Looks right to me. WKU should run away with if with all the talent and size. USM will shock some people and MT will be better than most think. Jmo

I'm sure ODU will still find a way to lose to MT twice, as is tradition.

I don't consider 7 as "many" especially when 2 or 3 of them aren't considered mid majors. Challenge failed.

Name “a” mid major mid major with seven years of success. I did that and then some. There are more I could have named.

And yes I believe any team in the West Coast Conf is a mid major.

I also included Butler because they did a good portion of their damage consistently before moving to the Big East. Like I said I could have named more but you just asked me to name one. And of course there aren’t going to be a lot because the cards are stacked against all of us and there are intentional persistent and overt efforts among power conferences intentionally trying to undermine non power conf success. My point was that it’s hard to accept this reality when you’ve had such a sustained level of success for that long. But I’m not real sure what your point was that’s not already obvious to everyone. Perhaps I should have just thanked Captain Obvious??

Congratulations, you named 5 teams. My point is it's incredibly hard to have that kind of success as a mid major and to think MTSU would have it any longer is a fantasy. Yeah, it's obvious, but you are coming on here like it's the end of the world as you know it. You need to accept reality that none of our teams are very likely to maintain the level of success for that long - especially when you can only name 5 other teams out of 150.

Side note - if you really think Gonzaga is a mid major just because of the conference they play in, then I have overestimated your knowledge of the college basketball landscape.

Oh, and yes, you named A team. Congrats, you won the internet battle today. Please relax.

Just said it’s going to be hard to watch us go through this season after the great run we’ve had. Doesn’t seem too unreasonable of a comment. But then you jump all over because your perception is we shouldn’t be able to continue it.

But sure I’m the one who needs to relax. Will get right on that.

They might have been left with basically nothing because of the quick coaching turnarounds, but you can't argue against VCU's success.

Wins over multiple ranked teams every year since 09-10 (and that year they beat #17 Oklahoma) and they've beaten a ranked team every year since 05-06. 7 straight NCAA tournament and 8/10 from 07-17. A Final Four and 8 NCAA wins since 2010-2011.

They won 24+ games every year for 11 straight seasons (from 06-07 through 2016-2017). They may have only been 17-14 last year in their first season under Mike Rhoades (who we all know is a good coach) following the swift departure of Will Wade, but let's not pretend like VCU hasn't done a helluva job since the turn of the century (they still beat a couple of ranked teams last year). Hell, they have the 10th highest winning percentage in D-I history (just in front of Villanova) [to qualify, you have to play at least 25 years at D-I level; of note, WKU is 8th]. You can acknowledge the success of another team without tearing down your own.
