If we have better talent this year, it is only because of the few players Lewis was able to bring into the program at the last minute. He has too few tools to work with. At least, a couple of games were watchable. I am still bitter at our AD for keeping Haynes, not just because he was losing, but because he continued to recruit non D1 talent to our program. Notice what BGSU did when it was obvious that their coach had no clue. He acted early and quickly at the 3 year mark. I understand that you do not fire a coach too early, but a AD is suppose to know enough about the sport and talent, to know if the program is going forward or backward. Under Haynes, we went backward from the get go. Our results this year is totally predictable. I like Lewis and am hopeful that he is moving forward.

I agree this year's team is more talented but I don't think the gap is as big as it looks. Lewis's first team is enjoying something Haynes never did... Staying healthy. I'm going to go out on a limb and say if this team was down to the third string QB the offense would look every bit as bad as last year.

DITTO ... Haynes issues magnified by the fact he NEVER started October with his first-team QB ... and always ended the season with his third.

Magnified by consistent OL issues that still remain ... Lewis 'style' is pleasing, but results are the same (so far) and must improve.

Wondering if Lewis is kicking himself for not waiting a few more months for the BG job.

Many of those offensive injuries were due to poor coaching. When you have your starting QB running the ball 40 times a game mostly up the middle he is bound to get injured. You also have to take into consideration the poor strength and conditioning program we had during the Haynes era which included hiring a coach that wasn't certified.

I am not sure we ever really had a quarterback under PH (Holley gave great effort but wasn't DI QB material; the kid from Cleveland who was constantly hurt wasn't recruited by anyone else and came to us by default) and as indicated we just got these guys beat to death through offensive design and poor OL play. I like Coach Lewis and think he will recruit talent. I won't say we are way ahead of last year - I am pleased with the effort and offense. I am going to evaluate our progress after the BG game. BG has been just terrible for three years - (especially on defense) and we got blasted by them throughout the entire PH era. We have ten days to get ready to play them - at this point we need to beat this team (playing for an interim coach), the I will say we have made some progress.

I agree that the lousy offense and OL the last few years was key to the QB injuries. I'm not sure that's gone though. It might just be that Barrett is built to take the beating better. I don't know the numbers but I know he's been sacked a ton.

I just hope we can win the Wheel back before Akron has to pawn it to pay for a shiny new building.

Our OL is beat up and thin on depth no matter what Coach Lewis brings to the table we are losing the game in the line play. Needs to bring in some transfers and/or JuCo players

I think we should continue to blame Paul Haynes for all of the defeats for the next 2, maybe even 3 years. I'm sure he was the person who made the bad snap at the end of the Akron game and probably gave up the game winning TD vs. Ohio. I think he called all the bad plays against Miami too.

Offensive stats check in after 7 games compared to the full season of 2017. I added in the teams ranking and the stats from the school leading the stat to give comparison.

ppg 12.8 (129) [48.2]------23.0 (112) [53.6]
total 275.2 (128) [579.6]--397.4 (77) [567.0]
pass 122.7 (124) [389.2]--226.0 (76) [413.7]

When it comes to this program it is nothing but excuses. Maybe our coach should coach. Maybe he should not worry about
Growing out his beard
Calling Akron by another name. Really? Hell that doesnt happen for baseball or basketball and they win games.
Coffee shop talks. Nobody cares about your little chats.

You know what gets butts in seats? WINNING! You want students to care? WIN!

Or better yet drop to D2 and give some money back to the programs that WIN!

KSU93 you need to get over yourself. It’s ridiculously obvious you hate football and you hate KSU administration. We get it. You don’t have to post about it every five minutes. Harness that negative energy and use it somewhere else. Go mow the lawn, do some laundry, build something.

You know who cares about coffee shop chats? Parents. Parents of 17 and 18-year old kids about to make the biggest decision of their lives. Maybe they’d like to get to know the coaches and men before signing to spend the next four-five years with them.

Like it or not, this program finally has a presence on social media and elsewhere. I applaud this staff for that. At least it gives the illusion someone around here cares.

In my opinion Coach Hayes is no longer here however the players he recruited are. We are paying the price for several years of being ranked by various sources at the bottom of MAC recruiting. In college football it takes several recruiting classes to build a program unlike a video game were you change a team with a few key strokes.

You’ll never, and I mean NEVER convince me there isn’t an ancient indian buriel ground under that stadium.

After attending games at Dix for 49 years I have to wonder the same thing - I think I have witnessed some of the wildest weather events possible. I hope we turn this thing around soon - I can't expect to wait another 40 years for a bowl game.

I lived and worked in Lake County for 30 plus years and if you want to see wild weather show up in late September through early November. Some of the worst lake effect thunderstorms occur. What gets to Kent is nothing. Thirty degree air and 55 to 70 degree Lake Erie can be quite the spectacle.

When Haynes took over we also discussed how Hazel left the cupboards bare for him despite winning double digit games. Stating facts isn't necessarily blaming anyone but it gives perspective on where we are as a program.
