I was also a freshman in the band. What'd you play? (I went to the Doc Severinson concert at convo that they mentioned at the start of the video.) Makes me want a $6 Mr. Gatti's delivery.

I played trumpet, '88 & '89...can't remember if I went to see Doc or not...and I hear ya, this video brings back memories of calling up JM's for delivery of one order of nachos and 2 cases of Beast. "Of course we're 21!"

Geeeeeezzz. How many of us are out here?!?

Went to Doc, big fan of the guy back then, I played trumpet from 3rd grade til HS when I couldn’t stand the director (later ran into him at JMU while I was working at Luigi’s).

If you were ordering beast and nachos from JM’s, there’s about a 90% chance it was my roommate delivering it to you on the moped.

He did that and took exactly one class back then, Econ 101.

He got an F and dad wasn’t paying for anymore classes... lol

Ahhhhh, good times. Folks tell me there were football games being played while we partied on the Hill.

Who knew?

Basketball was the top dog back then. I think '88 was the year before Lefty arrived.

The 7k+ capacity one that hosts the Div III NC game (Stagg Bowl)? Yeah that might have been nicer, but Bridgeforth was bigger- apparently held 12.5k from 1981-2000.

My high school (TC Williams in Alexandria) played in Salem for the state semifinals in 1986. And maybe '88? I know we played the state championship at WT Woodson.

You worked at Luigi's? I'm sure I bought pizza from you at some point. Do you know anyone who knows the recipe for the sauce there? I've been trying to recreate that pizza sauce my whole adult life.

Luigi’s was my favorite. I was there later, though, between 94-98. We used to have our Economics Club meetings there. Loved that place.

Yes, I was the guy (likely) throwing your pizza. And yes, I'd know most of the recipe.
But, sorry no, hated TC Williams as a player. More than once had to play on a Saturday A.M. "Security concerns" they said.

So, yea, that recipe will likely cost you 20 bucks more. And I can only tell you how it all went into a 5 gallon pickle bucket. 25 yrs hence. 07-coffee3

My most memorably Hill experience was on a Parents Day game in the mid 80s. The train came through a very packed Hill area. They kept making announcements- train 30 min away, 20, 10 etc. There was a ton of people both above and below the tracks as it crept through at about 1 mph. People running ahead of it to put coins on the track. Ah, the days before liability when Darwinism ruled.

"The hill" was were we watched many games. It was easy to drink and watch the game. This was back in '81 thru '85. Probably '83. So, at 18 yrs, some of us were legal. Red cup, chair, and friends on 'the hill'. Fun? We watched Charles Hailey and Gary Carter play some great football. I remember one Saturday it rained before the game. Someone was running around in nothing but a sheet wrapped around himself, sort of like a made up diaper. The creek had water in it and we had ducks running around because folks started to feed them. Diaper man was running around trying to catch a duck. Then campus police decided he was drunk in public. We watched the campus police chase the guy around. I don't think they every caught him. Too young and too fast. Great entertainment.

Lol Yeah, Bridgeforth was probably bigger, but it was cavernous with that track and mostly empty!

I danced with Joe Purczycki’s daughter at a party once. She was cute. And nice.

You only had to do that once every other year. We had morning games every week. The "security concerns" were that FFX county schools didn't want to play against "those people" at night.
