Most Pitt students have left the stadium so they did not witness the greatest comeback. Two minutes left in game, ESPN projected the likelihood of Duke win is 99.1%.

RE: Open Thread - Week 9
It's unbelievable how Syracuse manages to screw things up sometimes.

Up 24-10 they force NC State to punt near their own 10-yard line. Coaches call for a punt block... end up roughing the punter. Then NC State hits a long bomb the next play to make it 24-17.

Syracuse would've had a short field to go up three scores and instead it became a one score game. Terrible coaching there.

And then NC State hit our punter the next Syracuse drive and the refs let it go. He straight up dove into him (wasn't pushed into him like Mowins tried to claim).

That makes perfect sense. Duke had the ball and Pitt's defense was as porous as a colander. Remarkably Pitt got the stop.

55 points might not be enough to win Cuse/NCSt game

Cuse Top 10 Offense, Top 100 Defense

However, they should be ranked in the Top 25. Only two close point losses @Clemson and @Pitt.

I can't wait to see the top 25 polls tomorrow. Syracuse will almost surely be in. 02-13-banana

I just hope we keep winning. It’s been a long time…

Exactly. It's tough to go from not getting any votes at all to being Top 25 in the AP two thirds of the way through the season. But while I hope to see it happen, I certainly am not counting on it. Just keep winning and it will happen.

Cheers,
Neil

8 teams near the bottom of the top 25 lost already. Oregon is also losing right now so it could be 9.

Most of the teams receiving votes didn't have a better resume as us either. And we had a better win this week than almost all of them.

Syracuse will almost positively be in.

It would be nice, but the goal is to win and get a bowl game. Baby steps first...

Who Helped by Losing - 10/28/18
#6 Texas lost at Oklahoma State, 35-38
#9 Florida lost to #7 Georgia, 17-36
#15 Washington lost at California 10-12
#16 Texas A&M lost at Miss. St 13-28
#18 Iowa lost at #17 Penn State 24-30
#19 Oregon lost at Arizona, 15-44
#20 Wisconsin lost at Northwestern 17-31
#21 S Florida lost at Houston 36-57
#24 Stanford lost to #14 Wash. St 38-41 at home
#25 App State lost at Ga Southern 14-34

The Virginia Cavaliers may break into the Top 25 thanks to all those losses, and Boston College and Syracuse also have a shot, IMO. Also, will the Wolfpack be able to hold on, or are they out now? TBD...

Why would NC St stay ranked? Blown out by @Clemson and beat @Syracuse? Home wins over UVA and BC.

Hmmm okay maybe they have a chance. UVA, NC St, Cuse and BC all sitting around the same spot.

If NC State had a win over WVU they would be in pretty good shape. Hurricane really did them no favors.

That would have been some shootout as well and had NC State won it that would have kept them in the Top 25, imho, even with these two consecutive losses.

Or, if they had played the game, NC State might have been exposed sooner and never made the Top 25 in the first place.

Yes, WVa's passing game would have exposed a glaring weakness in the defensive secondary. We lost a lot of people to the NFL last year and unlike Clemson we don't "reload" we have to "rebuild".

Well State's 5 remaining games this season are all winnable, so the likelihood of 10-2 or 9-3 is there. That should get the Pack ranked by the end of the regular season.

Cheers,
Neil
