Florida Atlantic @ Marshall - The Boca Owls fly north to Huntington for a match up with the Thundering Herd. FAU was expecting to have only lost to Alabama at this time but already have 3 loses, expect number 4. Hate to pick against the Lane Train but the preseason hype has been tempered by mediocre QB play.
Charlotte @ MTSU - The 49er discovered gold in Bowling Green but it was really Iron Pyrite. WKU is not a good team, bad might be a better description, look for the Blue Raiders to roll, even without Stockstill and Charlotte with a new Sherriffs. The 49ers fall from cloud 9.
UTEP @ LA Tech- the Miners head over to Rustin for a showdown with the Bulldogs. The Miners are starting to show signs of life but are not quite at the Bulldogs level. Look for LaTech to roll.
UTSA @ Southern Miss - UTSA has amassed 1789 yard of total offense this season, not bad, well actually it is bad, only 2000 yards behind Alabama. I don't expect much against a solid USM defense. Look for the Golden Eagles to prevail over the visiting Road Runners from Texas.
Rice @ FIU - As Huey Lewis says "sometimes bad is bad", I think he was referring to Rice football. Thankfully Prairie View was on the schedule. FIU is quietly becoming a pretty solid football team. I don't expect the Owls to disprove that notion. FIU runs away with this one.
UNT @ UAB - The Mean Joe Green's head over to another green team in Birmingham. The Blazers have the experienced roster and the home field to create the edge but the Screaming Eagles want show their mettle. This one is a coin flip. I have to go with the boys from Birmingham in a close one.
ODU @ WKU - It was not long ago that the Toppers lead the nation in yards per play now it seems they lead the nation in plays per yard. Mike Sanford has this proud program headed to the basement of FBS. The Monarchs shocked the Goblers and the nation a few weeks ago but now they are back to being ODU. This should be dubbed the disappointment bowl due to the dismal records or both teams. Bobby Wilder comes out of BG with a W and a smile while the athletic dept at WKU is collecting funds to buy out the Boy Wonders contract for 2019.

There are 3 teams looking strong out west, but only one (so far) is a proud owner of a 42-zip schellacking of my beloved Rice Owls. I’ve been a UNT fan, they’re kinda my ‘hometown home boys’... but I’ll take a flyer on UAB this week. They were the total package last week against a Rice team that many claim is NOT the worst team in the land.

The team than many claim IS the worst in the land make the hop over to neighboring LATech for, well, a loss.

Mars Hall hosts the Lane Train... I started this season on the FAU bandwagon and I pretty much hopped off at the first exit in Norman. Buffalo Boys git r dun.

One more over .500 team I have yet to mention is another squad whose praises I’ve sung a good part of this year. Or at least I’ve picked em a lot and they’ve won a few. Not this week as FIU faces the team that almost beat two 5-1 Access Bowl semi-contenders. RICE breaks out of its not-so-fresh funk with an international cap.

Man from UNCCharLottE takes on the Middle Man in a battle of manly, mainly middlin 3-3 teams. clt says I’m forgiven for taking the smurfs at home. I was in the middle between these two but finally settled ON the middle.

They’re both sub 500 but they’ve both only got one CUSA loss. So don’t count either univ Texas South Austin or University of S&M from the conference race. Until tomorrow, at least, when you can go ahead and count UTSA out. S&M plays great at home.

Oops I almost forgot — the only two winless squads in the east face off for a battle for, what’s the opposite of supremacy? Infancy? Infamy? Subremacy? However you label it, ODU’s toast after their season making W last month.
