RE: Week 7 Attendance
ODU's attendance has been weird this year. I know this is reported per tickets sold, but our first home game had bad weather and not a whole lot of people showed up. Then we played Virginia Tech at home and it was over capacity. This weekend it was probably 85% full which was more than I thought for a 1-6 team. We will see how many people show up in 2 weeks, which is Homecoming and could draw some more fans than if it was just a normal game for a team that will either be 1-7 or 2-6 at that time. I think the Tech win really bolstered fan support even though the team is struggling. Hopefully the butts-in-seats number stays up especially if we find a couple of more wins

We're probably going to lose the next 6 games, stop trying to make this an issue right now. People are tired of Bland Lambert and his boring style of play. It will be a great day when he is fired.

We also had a game moved on the week of the game to a weekday afternoon for Hurricane Florence.

Still, you have to put something on the field people want to see and Brad Lambert has a history of not doing that. We'll see if the next coach can correct that.

Well per this Marshall fan, we should be excited about a team that was embarrassed by App State, UMass, and UAB. Just think, there are people that believe this makes sense.

They also think we’re winning. We came into this game 2-3 on a two game losing streak. We came into this game giving up 77 points in the previous two games. Lambert’s style of football is not fun to watch. The students didn’t show up for this one.

Having said that, I had a ball watching this one from section 109.

It could also be that some fans/students potentially don't know how the team is doing based off of previous years lack of success. Not a knock, I just know when I was a student and ODU went 2-25 in basketball one year, student support dropped off a cliff, even though the next year we went 18-18 and have been winning 20 or more games a year since. It has gotten better since then but the more success your program has, the more of a following it gets. I bet if you continue to win and have winning seasons, the fans will come and stay

Of course they will. We WON for the better part of 2 decades and almost always had great crowds. Our WORST attended games then (4-5000) were as good or better than our average the last 3-4 years.

RE: Week 7 Attendance
So are there some schools reporting tickets sold & others using the roundabouts as their counter. Because there was no where near 18k at UNT game. Maybe 4K tops.

Getting butts in seats is what we need. No reason to lie about iit. So the universities should be held accountable

EVERYONE reports tickets sold (discounted, donated, given to military, etc) as attendance.

Not everyone.

Well not unless 95.1% of the tickets Western sells, bring their ass to the game and plant that ass in a seat.

Even then I can point out games soldout (basketball) and reported attendance 20% under what the arena holds. So as I said...not everyone

RE: Week 7 Attendance
Does it really matter if a university uses tickets sold or butts in seats? It’s not as if those universities reporting actual attendance refund the money from unused sold tickets. IMO a better attendance measure would be money made from ticket sales.

Both should be tracked by the administration. However, the publicized number should be tickets SOLD. What is there to gain to publicize butts n seat? NOTHING. If every school/ conference is posting tickets sold and you post butts n seat, you've just made yourself look worse for no reason. Let yourself get measured by the same method as others.

UAB reports attendance as number of tickets scanned at the gates.

Thats what it should be. Not tickets sold. Attendance means people viewing the game inside a stadium.

What makes you say that? This article states UAB scanned 63% of their tickets sold last season. They did indicate they had some tech issues, but still they obviously don't announce scanned tickets.

Out of all FBS, only 4 schools reported 90% or better for announced attendance vs scanned tickets.

I think we should start measuring attendance like golf. This conference is so bad this year, the lesser the better right?

Charlotte wins.

Winning obviously doesn't help attendance in this conference very much. We have a lot of large schools, population wise.

UTSA - 31k
FIU - 56k
FAU- 30k
UNT- 30k
UTEP- 25k
Marshall- 15k
UAB- 20k
Rice -8k
WKU- 20k
MTSU- 20k
Charlotte- 25k
La Tech- 14k

If you’re going to make statements and try to sell them as fact, at least Be accurate. Marshall’s undergrad enrollment for the 2017-18 year was 9,489 with a total enrollment of 13,246. We are averaging 23355 this year in attendance with all three games in inclement weather.

You all have really ZERO room to talk about other schools’ attendance. YOU PLAY IN A DAMNED DOME!!!!! Sure is easy to look down your nose at other schools when you don’t have to worry about weather conditions.

Or look at schools that have been playing 75+ years. I'm not saying anything about any other school. Dead serious. I respect Marshall, UNT, UAB, FAU, UTEP, MTSU, etc. all have had more success than my school except attendance.
