Game Week: @BSU
Crazy season, we are still underwater (3 - 4), but have beaten a B1G team, not named Rutgers, and got the TOL monkey off our back.

Beating Purdue and Toledo is nothing to sneeze at.

Down to Muncie Saturday afternoon.

Dear Friends,
Those of us that watched the game with Toledo realize the importance of Glass at quarterback. Moving to Ball State on Saturday will be interesting because personally, I think we can have a successful running game even without Glass, but it has to be varied like the attack was in the first half against Toledo.
For example, when Toledo's defense stacked their linebackers up near the defensive linemen, we called pass up the middle to the tight end which gained significant yardage. The other were sweeps around the end that also generally worked for yardage, and kept Toledo's defense unsure of what was coming.
If, we can do those and if Wiegers is the starter, I think we should be okay. I still think Stiebeling should be given a shot at starting.

Not sure I agree with your idea that we can have a successful running game without Glass, since we haven't all season. Great observation about the TE's, which was nice to see this week.

Your Stiebeling idea is very interesting at this point though. Wouldn't start him, but we could rotate him in like we did Glass for the 1st 6 games, if the offense is really struggling. He doesn't have nearly the passing ability of Glass or Wiegers, but his specialty is the zone read run game. You wouldn't expect it, but look at the last game last year, and his high school tape, and he's a better runner than passer.

As far as Grissom, I just don't think he's ready for the entire playbook, and I don't think the coaches have any confidence in his arm at this point. Like someone else mentioned, you can't just put him out there as a run-only threat because the defense will eat that up.

Not sure where Jackson fits in all of this either. He was actually getting a lot more reps in Spring ball because he had the next best combination of arm/running ability on the roster. He's actually the bigger, more physical runner than Grissom as well. He's 6'2 - 221 lbs, and everyone says he looks like a grown man out there. Also very mature and has leadership qualities for his age. If we were gonna trot somebody out there for that 4th & 1 in an obvious QB run situation on Saturday, not sure why they didn't give Jackson the opportunity.

I hope you're right Ken, but we've got a real dilemma on offense right now.

I agree with Stiebling, he's gotta be the next best options. AND, this could be used as an advantage as Ball State doesn't really know what to prepare for regarding the back-up option. I'm assuming we will have a change of pace QB to spell Weigers.

Time for Creighton to get creative here.

Any updates on Glass? 2-4 week thing? I'm assuming a knee sprain? Didn't look like an ACL or a break.

I'm no doctor (and I didn't spend last night in a Holiday Inn, or whatever the commercial is)...

I assume there are two categories when it comes to ligaments:

1). Tear - that is a season ender and a long rehab following a difficult surgery. I saw Eddie Daugherty in June at The Factory. I gained a lot of empathy that day. Lot of them are tears of one or two ligaments, maybe some torn meniscus (i), etc.

2). Sprains - ACL, MCL, etc. These come in grades (I, II and III). A grade one sprain is a few weeks. Grade III is a season ender.

I don't know when the MRI was done. I assume swelling is the key here.

I think an ortho surgeon probably can tell early on based on swelling, pain level, etc. , even before the MRI, if it is a strain or tear.

Glass was definitely in pain but didn't seem as bad as a tear.

EDIT: I just found this. This leads credence to what I posted that an ortho surgeon can pretty well guess before a MRI what he or she will find.

There are significant differences between sprains and tears.

I doubt it. He had a charmed year last season (8-5 6-2) with a mediocre team overachieving like crazy. The also have a much bigger problem with their basketball coach who they granted an extension to although he has not won 40% of his conference games.

IF Glass was healthy and starting, I'd feel really good and think we'd win by 2 TD's.

As it is, we'll probably all suffer another excruciatingly close game or OT game.

Defense and OLine need to lead the way. Special teams has to be a positive, instead of a negative as well.

Just win baby!

I would agree Tough. Next to Kent St. this is probably our easiest conference game. Unfortunately with no Glass and homecoming in Muncie, I am less than sanguine with our prospects.

The win last week snapped the Deja Vu 2017 performance feeling. It is indeed time for everyone to step up and just get the "W" no matter who we have at QB.

Dear Friends,
This will be an interesting game. Not counting Ball State's blow out of Central Connecticut, they average giving up about 22 points on defense. They played Notre Dame tough, but then lost to winless Western Kentucky. They beat Central Michigan last weekend, but suffered a semi-blowout to Indiana earlier.
My point being, which Ball State will show up this coming Saturday? I'm sure they are saying some of the same things about Eastern, and at his Monday press conference, Coach Creighton said they cannot take Ball State lightly. I agree.
My take is, if we can jump out to a lead then I think we could win, just like against Toledo.

Ken to be honest BSU's signature performance of the season was their close loss to Notre Dame. They have beaten the two worst teams in the MAC, Kent St. and CMU as well as the obligatory stomping of an FCS opponent. They are not very good.

That being said the Barna, E Tough train that urged Glass to be the starter proved 100% true in the first half of the Toledo game. I was cautious but I must admit that EMU is a totally different team with Glass taking snaps.

Still we play them on their homecoming day without Glass. It will require far more effort than it should but like E Tough says "just win baby".

On the teleconference interview, Creighton was asked about Glass' injury and if he wanted to elaborate or give an update later this week and said "We'll figure that out as it goes."

So we won't get a peep until kickoff of whatever game Glass ends up returning.

Game Week: @BSU
I am hoping for good weather and a great game. My wife and I will be meeting our son, who is also an EMU alum and now lives in Indiana, for the game. I see this game as a push. Both teams have the same record. EMU had beaten a Big Ten team, BSU has not. Both trams have beaten FCS teams. Both teams have beaten MAC opponents. The biggest factor is we are playingthem on their home turf and it is their homecoming. If we can play like we did against Purdue, with Wieger at the helm, we will win. If we play like we did against NIU we have a better than not chance of winning. In short, we “should” win this game...all things being equal...but home turf and homecoming are the intangibles that may swing this game in BSU’s favor. Push.

As usual, the next game is the biggest game of the year. A win and emu is back to 4-4 going into a homecoming game against Army. That Army game will have the biggest crowd of the Year, even more so if EMU wins this Saturday. A little momentum going into that game would be nice.

Looking at the game from 30,000 feet, we need a good discussion of the strengths of the BSU defense, esp. the front four and seven.

To me, the game will be won or lost if we can control the BSU front. if they don't bring a lot of pressure than the game could go well; otherwise, ????

As we all know, give Wiegers time and he can pitch it.
