RE: Former Red Wing Joe Murphy
This is horrible and sad. I remember Joe Murphy and when he played for MSU, as well as in the NHL. What a talent. It is so hard to see where he is now. Mental illness can have some jaw dropping results. It's hard to conclude that joe's head trauma had nothing to do with his problems. Just an incredible story. He could use a few prayers.

CTE is a horrible condition. Eventually, if it can't be controlled by technology, it will render American football unplayable at the pro and college levels. The cost will become prohibitive with litigation and settlements. Maybe hockey as well, who can say?

There is an easy option for that, just make pro players sign waivers removing any and all liability from NFL. People will still line up to make millions even though there is health risk. Still millions of people smoking cigs....

College and High School may get a little tricky.

Rules changes could help. Make stiffer penalties for boarding, crosschecking any any blows to the head-automatic 5 minute majors might be the trick. Hockey might even go so far as to prohibit checking like the women play.

Hey, I love the sports but we can't allow hard contact if it leads to conditions like this. We can enjoy the sports without it.
