Exclamation ****OFFICIAL GAME WEEK THREAD #23 South Florida at Tulsa 10/12****
So I have been caught up irl and missed a couple games. So a quick run down. The Temple loss hurt, although Temple had been underperforming they look to be a decent team. Bad play calls, bad turn overs, and bad penalties put an end to any shot Tulsa had. In particular the lack of urgency in the final two minutes vs them was infuriating to me. The Houston loss hurts even worse. I hate the coogs and always want to beat them. Boomer looked to be a gun slinger and I like the way the kid played. However the game showed that the QB is most likely not the issue. Bad play calling, bad turn overs, and bad penalties ended what was a chance at a solid win.

USF comes in a winning team who has for the last two plus years just been getting it done. Their offense has struggled some so hopefully our defense can continue to play solid. I expect the Strong will have the defensive pressure dialed up for Boomer to try and decipher.

We played Texas so damn well that I am of the opinion that we are losing in spite of our talent, not because of it. Sadly that gives me hope although, a replay of all four losses is most likely. Tulsa plays tough, falls behind, makes some come back moves and then shoots itself in the foot for the loss. Rinse and repeat.

Looking forward bowl elgibility is still possible. Arkansas is bad and this may be an even better chance for us to win then the Charles Clay team had. Wins against SMU and UConn seem very possible. Tulane is still figuring it out. That would give us five. Navy has been hit or miss and Memphis has struggled an upset against either would give us a 5-1 finish to what is likely a 1-5 start 04-jawdrop

Has anyone heard about our rbs situation? Do we have to convert President?

Montgomery said he hoped they’d both be available, but that Brooks is likely a sure thing. He warmed up at Houston but changed into street clothes after warms ups.

That's good. Taylor just looked like a rolled ankle sprain type so it may just be how it feels come game time. Still not a lot of faith right now.

USF always seems to do enough to win and unlike us has a tendency to not make critical mistakes. I like our chances better after this game. Still looks like 3-4 win season though.

We run our running backs with the attitude that big Russian had who fought Apollo Creed; "If he dies, he dies."

Ok, maybe not that extreme, but our track record of having rb's injured makes a person wonder. Although it is part of the game too. I remember Trey Watts missed time during our Liberty Bowl year in 2012.

But Trey was by far our number one back that year right?

What has seemed odd to me is he has had two backs each year and we still have had problems. I remember that they have all been pretty different injuries too. Still he puts them to work.

Trey was the primary back, yes. But Ja'Tarian got plenty of touches as well. He started in the Rice game when Watts was hurt. And then you had Singleton for almost every short yardage situation because he was a 260 pound human battering ram.

It was a 3-headed monster that no one could stop.

Damn, nearly had three with 1000 yards that year. I had forgotten about that. I guess watts was just so special that season I mostly remember him.

RE: ****OFFICIAL GAME WEEK THREAD #23 South Florida at Tulsa 10/12****
We blew it this game. The crowd looked sparse and worse after half time.

Our coach went to conservative before we should have and we lose another heart breaker. We have played well vs the two best teams on our schedule so far.

Player is going to be a problem for just about everyone, he is explosive on that D-line and blows up plays. Our defense could really be elite next year, but still have lapses this year some times.

Our offense played to it's strengths and I like the look of Boomer more and more. The kid's a competitor and knows he is a winner. He is never going to avoid the Paul Smith comparisons but I think he may deserve to be talked about in the same way at the end of his career.

We have some positives from this team. I like Monty, he seems to be a great guy. Coaches get fired on wins and losses though, not personality. I think he's probably fired and it's unfortunately fair.

We definitely went too conservative, but it's tough when you're averaging less than 4 yards per attempt in the passing game. And sometimes I wonder if the nature of our running game (fast-paced, wear them out) hurts us when trying to run some clock.

This was also another game where our defense was awesome right up until the 4th quarter and then they fell apart. And we were playing without our top 2 corners.

From 30000 feet, that game was a great effort and nothing to be ashamed of, but within the context of this season and the fashion in which we lost makes it tough to swallow. I don't think the school can afford to fire Monty, but I'm not sure anyone's gonna show up to games anymore if they don't.

The issue wasn't the last drive, it was the previous two where he went far too conservative. We also lost our NFL O-lineman prospect in the fourth, that's tough for this team to overcome.

Our defense continues to perform above average and on occasion will show some real flashes of being a great defense.

I think your last paragraph is right on the money. Monty is like 4-10 in one touchdown games. That doesn't look like it will be changing.

We can probably afford to fire Monty, really can't afford not to. If we do fire him I would prefer we do it before the season is over. Personally I think we should make a run at Graham, word is he would be open to the idea of returning.

Just not a good point in the program right now. Tough times, a frustrated fan base, and from what I saw after the game a disappointed, down, and frustrated team.
