Breakfast With the Broncos Set For Oct. 13
September 19, 2018

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The annual tradition that marks the beginning of the Western Michigan men's basketball season, Breakfast with the Broncos, is set for Saturday, Oct. 13, with doors opening at 9:00 a.m. inside University Arena.

There is no admission charge and the first 350 fans will receive FREE Maggie's breakfast.

It will be the first opportunity for fans to check out the 2018-19 squad as the Broncos will compete in two scrimmages starting tentatively at 9:45 a.m.

Following the scrimmage will be the third annual WMU Basketball Alumni game. Last year's Alumni game featured Bronco greats such as Austin Richie, David Brown, Taylor Perry, Drew Hershberger and more! Former players interested in participating in the Alumni Game should contact Jacob Bullock at jacob.bullock@wmich.edu or (269) 387-3117

The current WMU players will be available at the end of the Alumni Game to sign autographs.

The 2018-19 campaign is right around the corner as the Broncos will hit the court for the first of two exhibition contests on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 2:00 p.m. against Northwood University. WMU squares off with Kalamazoo College on Saturday, Nov. 3 before kicking off the regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 6 against Detroit

Moore, Davis, Printy, and Johnson all banged up. Printy and Davis both played (limited). Moore is going to be out for a while still and Johnson should be ready to go within 3-4 weeks -- all according to Hawkins at the event. Appreciated that update since we don't get them from MLive.

Davis looked good even despite not being at 100% (as he should). I thought Whitens and Flowers both looked much improved. Whitens in particular could have a big year. Reminds me of Conner Tava in many ways in that he just takes up a lot of space, can play multiple positions and plays bigger than his size.

I am pleasantly surprised at our young guys. This is a nice freshmen class. The two canucks Boyer-Richard and Emilien both look like they have loads of potential, but still very raw. Had their moments (good and bad).

My two favorite freshmen that immediately popped off the charts (for me) were Martin (Atlanta) and Toliver (Paw Paw). Toliver can shoot the lights out and he has great court awareness for a frosh. His release is quick and a thing of beauty. Brandon Pokely-like but a better athlete I think. I think Martin could be our starting PG. I could be completely off on that prediction, but I love the way he sees the court and moves the ball around.

All in all... it's a scrimmage so take my observations all with a grain of salt.

Even after years of doing this, not enough people still know about it which is hard to believe. I would guess there was MAYBE 200-300 people there... and that seems like a generous estimate. I wish WMU marketed it more. Love this event. It's a family tradition for us.
