RE: 2019-2020 Hoops schedule
I love this schedule. Missing probably 1 high profile home game, but the buy games are a decent enough replacement and we also have a couple great road/neutral games.

Brannen's buy game mentality has been a breath of fresh air. Not just looking for any little dregs to fill out the schedule.

Yep. I have yet to hear any excuses about not being able to schedule decent buy games. Sounds like Brannen is a guy who gets things done instead of whining about his limitations.

I believe it has been moved from 11/5 to 11/6 as to not compete with the Champions Classic . No announcement has come from schools however to my knowledge. Don't quote on me this or make travel plans based on . I'll edit original post

RE: 2019-2020 Hoops schedule
With respects to OOC scheduling, looking through the years it looks like Mick liked to line up the HBCUs and a lot of teams from the Atlantic Sun that were in certain parts of the country: Savannah State, Coppin State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Samford, Texas Southern, Morgan State, Mississippi Valley State, Alabama State, etc. Not sure if this was done for recruiting purposes or because he and his staff had relationships with all the coaches in those conferences.

Good to see us get buy games with Vermont and now Colgate at what looks to be very reasonable amount ($85K).

2020 sg Anthony Leal commits to IU.

Seemed we were on his radar for a while. Perhaps the recruiting gurus on here can confirm.

Would have been nice to get another good shooter. At least he didn't pick Xavier.

RE: 2019-2020 Hoops schedule
UC officially announces non -conference slate.....

https://gobearcats.com/news/2019/8/15/me...slate.aspx

CINCINNATI – Potential contests against nine teams who qualified for postseason play a year ago highlight the 2019-20 University of Cincinnati men's basketball nonconference schedule announced Thursday by head coach John Brannen.

Among the 2018-19 accomplishments achieved by the 16 possible opponents on UC's 12-game nonconference schedule: 10 teams won 20 or more games, seven finished first or second in their league, six advanced to the NCAA Tournament and six finished in the top 100 of the NCAA Evaluation Tool (NET) rankings.

"We put this schedule together to not only challenge us leading into one of the best conferences in the country in The American, but also to put us in position, hopefully, for NCAA Tournament seeding purposes," Brannen said.

The nonconference schedule features six home games, with matchups against 2018-19 Missouri Valley Conference co-champion Drake (Monday, Nov. 11), Alabama A&M (Thursday, Nov. 14), UNLV (Saturday, Nov. 30), last year's American East Conference champion Vermont (Tuesday, Dec. 3), last season's Patriot League co-champion Colgate (Saturday, Dec. 14) and Tennessee (Wednesday, Dec. 18), who advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament a year ago.

"Our philosophy on our one-off games, which are considered buy games, was to play against some of the top mid-major schools in the country," Brannen said. "Colgate, Drake and Vermont were all league champions and they provide high NET numbers and will be very difficult games for us."

The slate also includes two true road games – both in the state of Ohio. Cincinnati opens the regular season at Ohio State (Wednesday, Nov. 6), marking the Bearcats' first game at Ohio State since Dec. 10, 1921. Cincinnati also plays at Xavier (Saturday, Dec. 7) in the annual Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout.

UC takes part in the 2019 Paradise Jam, Nov. 22-25, in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. The Bearcats will battle Illinois State (Friday, Nov. 22) in the opener. A win over the Redbirds sets up a UC contest with the winner of the Bowling Green-Western Kentucky matchup on Sunday, Nov. 24, while a loss to Illinois State will result in the Bearcats playing the loser of the Bowling Green-Western Kentucky matchup on Saturday, Nov. 23. UC will meet either Valparaiso, Grand Canyon, Fordham or Nevada in the finale Monday, Nov. 25.

The Bearcats wrap-up the nonconference season when they face Iowa (Saturday, Dec. 21) in the Chicago Legends event at the United Center.

UC's preseason exhibition opponent and the American Athletic Conference portion of its 2019-20 schedule will be announced at a later date. Earlier this summer, the league pairings were unveiled for the coming season. The Bearcats are slated to play home games against UCF, UConn, ECU, Houston, Memphis, SMU, Temple, Tulsa and Wichita State and road contests at UCF, UConn, ECU, Houston, Memphis, USF, Temple, Tulane and Wichita State.

A complete list of tip times and TV networks will also be announced at a later date.

// A CLOSER LOOK AT CINCINNATI'S NONCONFERENCE SLATE
Among the 2018-19 accomplishments achieved by the 16 possible opponents on Cincinnati's upcoming 12-game nonconference schedule:

Ten teams won 20 or more games
Nine teams advanced to postseason play
Seven teams finished first or second in their league
Six teams participated in the NCAA Tournament
Six teams finished in the Top 100 of the NET Rankings

They "Buy" games this staff added were Vermont, Colgate and Drake. That's such an upgrade in scheduling philosophy from the prior staff. Those are real teams, not sub 250 kenpom type teams.

Not playing the full 13 games. No reason to add resume killers just for purpose of playing a game. During that Cronin years there way too many games the hurt our metrics by just playing the game.

10-2 or better is needed to have a chance at a high seed.

If they beat Iowa handily by utilizing a fast paced offense and defending the 3 pt shot,

...I might consider driving to LA and punching Cronin in the face.

Eh. I think the nonconference schedule is strong enough where they could lose 3 and still get a high seed depending on their league performance. Remember they lost 2 in 2018 and wound up a 2 seed. This is a better non-league schedule with more opportunities to slip up (and not hurt your metrics in doing so). The best thing about college basketball is inflated records don't get overvalued much. It really does matter who play and how you play to a very large degree.

You mean winning 5 games a year against Maryland-Eastern Shore type teams doesn't do much for you on Selection Sunday?

Go figure.

I am less confident in the league being strong enough but concerned there are too many decent teams that can beat you. I am not sold on Memphis being top 25 good, they should good but not great. I doubt Houston is protected seed good again. There are about five others that could be good enough to make the post season if things break the right way.

Anyway, I don’t see a four seed or better with three non-conference losses. That would basically require 17-1 or better in league play. Basically have to beat Tennessee and at least one other big time opponent while sweeping the mid-majors.
