Mick schedules games against

UNLV
Tennessee
@ Xavier
@ NKU
@ Ohio State
Iowa neutral

And he can't comprehend scheduling.

Brannen schedules a game against Vermont and is putting Mick to shame. Gotcha. As usual the difference is fan perception and optimism.

Why couldn't Vermont just have been a good add? It seems our scheduling was trending upward under Mick. I expect that to continue under Brannen.

Also, to give Cronin credit for scheduling Xavier is a bit much. As a matter of fact, based on everything he said about the rivalry and how he was indifferent toward its importance in Cincinnati I wouldn't be surprised if he was of the attitude to back out of it if he ever could.

Not only that he forgot to mention the prior 13 years of crap scheduling. Selective memory or old age Hep?

Mick's scheduling problem was poor planning with "buy" games. He was fine scheduling generally but played too many rpi drags which repeatedly hurt uc's sos. It cost them multiple seed lines in March over the years. Though you can't manipulate your sos as much anymore, playing quality buy games still matters

is it the head coach that actually makes these decisions? seems to me they'd have a lot of input but ultimately it's the ad's job?

This. The coach tells the AD what he would like to accomplish...the AD (actually, I doubt its the AD...it's someone in the AD's department) goes and tries to make it happen. Sometimes it's easier when the HC's of the two schools are friends, because they are both asking for the same game. But otherwise...the HC is not the one making it happen.

Let's not forget...it takes two to tango. Cronin or Brannen can say they would like to play Duke or Kentucky or whatever other school... it does not mean there is mutual interest. A lot of variables impact scheduling - such as finances, TV network desires, open dates, whether the game is mutually beneficial, etc

Got to admit, i love these off season conditioning video's they post. These guys do some serious conditioning.

https://twitter.com/GoBearcatsMBB

It would be interesting to get a take from a guy like Jaevin Cumberland what the off season program is like compared to Oakland.

I think the intense conditioning started with Huggs who realized he could not recruit the tallest and highest rated players but could build our players up where they could out muscle opponents.

If you check out Chad's twitter there is a team pic at the playground doing some community work. Two things i noticed are that J Davenport looks to be 6'7(on his crutches) and Zack H. looks to be a legit 6'4 at least. He's taller than JC in the pic.

Agreed. And Prince barely looks taller than Harvey - which probably puts him at 6'5". Of course, he's built like Eric Hicks, and a lack of height never stopped that guy.

Given Brannon's system, I don't know if Prince will be a bruiser or develop more finesse, so maybe the Hicks comparison isn't a good one --- but there's no way he's the 6'7" he's listed at in the roster.

It's really annoying when people don't just embed the tweet. Come on guys, it's 2019. At least give me a link! :)

RE: 2019-2020 Hoops schedule
I noticed that we have a lot of guys who are with an inch or two of height of each other. It looks like there are 7 guys (2 Cumberland's, Harvey, Moore, Prince, Williams and MAW) who are pretty close in height. That is a lot of interchangeable pieces.

On the short side there is only McNeal (I think it is McNeal in the Gray shirt next to Jaevin) and on the tall side are Davenport, Scott, Diarra, Sorolla and Vogt.

Brannen's buy game mentality has been a breath of fresh air. Not just looking for any little dregs to fill out the schedule.

Agreed. A challenging pre-New Year's schedule. I can't decide if UC will take some unexpected losses during that period with a totally new system in place or just keep rolling with our talented veterans returning. Either way, there are plenty of opportunities for quality wins.
