Cincinnati to Start Men's Basketball Series with Tennessee
Story Links
CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati men's basketball team will play a home-and-home series with Tennessee beginning in 2019-2020 in the Queen City.
Cincinnati will play host to Tennessee on Dec. 18, 2019 at Fifth Third Arena. The following season, the Bearcats will travel to Knoxville, Tennessee, to battle the Volunteers on Dec. 12, 2020 at Thompson-Boling Arena.
Tennessee enters this week ranked third in the nation according to the Associated Press Top 25 Poll after outlasting top-ranked Gonzaga, 76-73, Sunday in Phoenix. Under head coach Rick Barnes, the Volunteers posted a 26-9 overall record last season, claiming a share of the Southeastern Conference regular-season crown with a 13-5 league mark. Tennessee ended 2017-18 ranked 13th in the final AP poll.
"We're excited to add another quality opponent to our schedule the next two seasons," UC head coach Mick Cronin said. "I have a great deal of respect for Rick Barnes and what he's accomplished in his career and the job he's doing at Tennessee. It should make for some competitive games."
Cincinnati has won five of six meetings in its series with Tennessee but the two programs haven't played since the Bearcats registered a 79-58 victory on Jan. 4, 1993 at the Shoemaker Center (now Fifth Third Arena). The Bearcats leads the series 3-0 in Cincinnati and 2-1 in Knoxville.

Next years OOC now includes : @Ohio State, @ Xavier, Iowa (in Chicago), UNLV , Tennessee , potentially Nevada in holiday tournament

Well, hot damn! That's a great home and home (especially based upon UT this year). Now looking at:
Tennessee
@ Ohio St
UNLV
@ Xavier
vs Iowa
Paradise Jam (3 games vs. RPI 50-150 types)
Likely 5 more games to fill out the schedule. I'm guessing at least 4 of those are home buy games. Maybe one @NKU? I think we have six more seasons to play the final three in the contract with them.

Would like one more solid home games but UC is doing well with the non-conference schedule. Ohio State, UCLA, and Tennessee are big time brands. Neutral game against Florida last year and Iowa next year. Mix in UNLV, Xavier, and NKU and that’s a better spot than where this program was five to ten years ago.

Good one here - Vermont on Dec. 3.
The Catamounts were 27-7 last year (14-2) in the American East. The won the regular season title but got upset in their conference tourney.
They actually won it LY (got revenge on UMBC) and lost 76-69 to #4 FSU in the first round. They were upset by UMBC in the conf. title game in 2017. 76th each of the L2Y on Kenpom.
I'm not clear on what they return this year right now, but they have been a pretty consistent team over the last 10 years - they pretty much stay in the KP top 150, even in down years.

Damn, that's one of the best buy games I can recall us ever getting. Especially being early in the season with a new system, this one will be a real b-hole clincher. If we don't bring our A game, we can very easily be beaten.

Only good if UC wins and Vermont is top 75 or makes the tournament. Overall non-conference schedule seems filled with a lot real games.

So far..
Vermont
UNLV
Tennessee
@ Xavier
@ NKU
@ Ohio State
Iowa neutral
3 tourney games
No reason for anyone to complain this year about the OOC schedule. This is pretty solid. We have 3 more games to schedule I believe, and my guess is they'll be of the lower RPI variety. We'll need a few of those type of games in a year with a new coaching staff/system/many new players/players expected to do more.

Not only. It also gives the team another chance to play and prepare against solid competition.

no at nku. That game is next season. UC isn’t playing 7 games outside of fifth third arena in the non-conference. 7 home games 6 road/neutral.

Anthony Lamb is their best player, and might be the best player in their conference. He's double-double threat every game. They've also seen the sons of former US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan come through, with one being a senior and another being a sophomore this upcoming season. They'll be a solid team again.

Great looking schedule....
Looks like gone are the days of the putrid 5 or 6 games vs RPI 300+ teams

Why is everything JB does so much better than Mick? The guy understands things that Mick was never able to comprehend.

JB will not make excuses for who we can and can't schedule against. I think he will just go out and get it done, just like he will with recruiting....and winning in March.
