Has anyone been?
I'm wanting to go to see the WWII scenery and memorials. Dad always wanted to go before he died so I figure I will go for the two of us. Maybe leave something of his buried on the beach over there.
Anyways, more than likely I will go by myself. I'm thinking about flying in on a Friday and get to Normandy, spend two days there and then fly out. A 4 day weekend. Is this even plausible?

You are going to fly from Memphis to Paris, go to Normandy, back to Paris to fly back to Memphis all in 4 days? Good luck to you.
It could probably be done, however, most(not all but most) flights from Memphis to Paris land the day after you take off. So that would really be 1.5 days of the 4 just for the flight there.

That's why I'm asking. If I'm traveling by myself I figure I can keep pushing until I get there (not worry about pit stops), enjoy the view, then push back. Maybe I need 5 days.
Is one day enough to see everything or definitely need two days?

I've never really spent a lot of time in Normandy so I can't give you much on that. As far as days, I'd go with 5 minimum.
And if you are flying to Europe anyway try to extend it to a week and do Normandy and maybe Paris or Belgium

Thanks for the info. I can't take any more than 5 days off....self employed and if customers can't find me they could call someone else. I'm looking into options...

OH HOW I WISH i could go along. But you have to also visit Belgium and Luxembourg as they were a major part of the European theater. You have to see St Vith, Bastonge and of course you have to visit Patton's grave.
St Vith actually played a larger role in the battle than Bastonge. While it eventually fell, it delayed the northern army for so long and cost them so many men and materials that the attacked stalled not far past St Vith.
Bastonge was isolated and ignored for the most part at first and the southern army advanced much father on their objective. Much of the battle for Bastonge was during the German retreat.
