This is an insane post. Going 9-4 in a year where they played Iowa, Utah, FSU, and BYU out of conference is a ****** year?

Get a hold of yourself, my god.

As somebody else pointed out, here’s a reminder that the Orange Bowl team lost to Iowa and FSU too. And before somebody points out FSU is much worse than that year (duh), Iowa has already matched their win total from that year. Oh yeah, and Utah just beat the hell out of Stanford AT Stanford on Saturday.

Some of you people are beyond delusional.

If NIU goes undefeated in MAC play it would be a major accomplishment. The way Guadagni and Wassink are playing it will be very hard to beat them both.

BYU is very beatable, they got smoked by UT ST at home last weekend losingby 4 td's. NIU coudl very well go 9-3 regular saeason this year. I think what dissapooints though is that the Huskies had a chance to grab headlines and beat Utah at home, the D put on a incredible effort and it just didn't happen.

The FSU game is frustrating in that while the Huskie D did give up points it forced 4 TO's had 10 TFLS and 2 sacks. The Huskie offense was not on the field long enough to give the D a break, whenyou rushfor only 6 yards on 20 carries, something is wrong, Childers did complete 2 td passes and did not throw any pics but no runnning game vs a deep FSU team in terms of skill players will kill ya. If NIU runs for 150 yards that game is a possible Huskie win.

Fully agree with you. If Juwan hadn't stepped half an inch out of bounds, we likely aren't having this conversation.

You're delusional if you're comparing that team to this team just based on opponents! I've stated I prefer 9-5, bowl loss, undefeated mac championship isnt that exciting for me and attendance and revenue show mainstream fans dont care either.

[insert non-conference team] is beatable. We heard the same things about Iowa, FSU, and Utah then we lost to each one of them because our offense is atrocious. Utah State beat BYU so badly because they actually have an offense (averaging over 50 ppg). Until we develop even an average offense, BYU is likely going to beat us. This program under Carey has not shown it is capable of beating teams with a pulse.

The teams prior to Carey couldn’t beat a team with a pulse either. The problem is NIU is playing wayyyyyy more pulsating teams these days.

There is one legit P5 win on NIUs resume and that’s Maryland in 2003 under Novak. One so-so win over Iowa in 2013 under Carey. Prior to Carey the other p5 wins were over 3 or 4 win teams. That’s how we scheduled. There were a bunch of p5 losses as well.

How many are/were road money games? If you are a playing a Big Ten team or SEC, etc on the road the deck is already stacked against you. I would judge success by how well you are doing in the MAC and against good G5 teams.
Win the MAC, beat other G5's and low level P5 teams, you're doing pretty well. To really expect to beat top P5 teams on a regular basis is ridiculous.
With P5 monies, the deck is stacked more than ever.

Maybe you should cheer on Alabama then. They have all the things you are looking for.

The reality is, we are a MAC team, with a very limited budget and limited opportunities. And we win in the niche we compete in.

We can go undefeated and that still is not going to happen. I mean our 2012 Greatest Team Ever, ironically could not beat Iowa or Florida State!!!

This team can finish the year having had a very great season, they still are in the drivers seat and right where any realistic fan hopes them to be.

Some could argue that the 2003 team was the best team ever. Although, they lost to 2 games. That team was special. Beat AL, Iowa State and Maryland. But, lost to Toledo and Bowling Green??. Toledo was ranked I believe that year at the end as well.

I believe it was BG that was ranked - at least they were when NIU played them. Toledo was pretty good too - had a good record and knocked off a ranked Pitt team that year.

The Alabama team that NIU beat was better than the Nebraska team, the Purdue team, or the Northwestern team than NIU beat more recently.

Nick Duffy on the team I'll take the 2003 Huskies, after Duffy injury I'll take 2012 team

Toledo beat a top-10 Pitt team with Larry Fitzgerald in the Glass Bowl.

Miami finished top 10 and beat Northwestern, Louisville, & Cincinnati.

Bowling Green finished ranked and beat a top-20 Purdue while playing top-5 defending national champ Ohio St within a touchdown.

Both NIU and BGSU were ranked when Doyt Perry hosted College Gameday.

I guess it’s best to simply look at the fact that we are 3-0 in conference, and try to believe life is all good in Huskie land. We have enough to beat most if not all of our MAC opponents the rest of the way. This team has been built to do just that...and nothing more.

Nothing more? What are you looking for the FBS Championship?

A former member of this board was gracious enough to send me a DVD copy of the BG game from 2003 with the raw ESPN feed. I was just watching the beginning of this the other night and thought wow, a time when the big wigs at ESPN actually respected NIU and the MAC. Well then I watched the raw feed during commercial break and Fowler was making fun of the BGSU crowd saying their chants sounded like a high school game. He really came off as a smug arrogant idiot.
