I'd be all for it! If it carves out a layer of administration and truly gives operating saving, maybe the budget woes will make it happen in our life times. But keep 'NIU' as the name, nothing to be gained by renaming it.

I'd be OK with it if we kept NIU, or got an upgraded name. U of I at Dekalb would SUCKKKKK. We are an autonomous, unique institution, don't want to be added to a list of Illness underlings.

An affiliation is fine. A name change is not. Decades ago some people called UIC the Chicago Illini. No thanks.
