2. Cincinnati - Cronin always has his guys ready and I think it will be VERY tough to beat Cincy in their new arena. Crowds will be extra hyped there this season I’m sure. Glad we don’t have to deal with Gary Clark, but it is still Cincy. Rock fight every night.

3. Memphis - I have no idea if Penny can coach but he can definitely recruit. They have too much talent to not be competitive in every game. They will run and their games will be fun to watch.

4. SMU - Assuming Jarrey is back to 100% by January we will be a contender. Transfer Isaiah Mike and freshman Feron Hunt will be two of the best newcomers in the conference. Chargois has lost weight and in the best shape of his life. Should have a breakout year. Grad transfer Nat Dixon is supposedly much better than expected. Jank has to win with this group now or it hot seat time.

5. UCF - I like BJ Taylor as much as any guard in the AAC, and I like McSpadden a lot too. We know they will defend. I’m not as high on UCF as some but if Tacko has improved they will be a problem.

6. UConn - I think Hurley is a helluva coach. If Gilbert can get healthy, he and Adams are as tough a backcourt as any in the AAC. I think UConn will slowly improve as the season goes and could be very tough in Feb and March.

7. Wichita St - Obviously lost a lot. McDuffie is still around and will be all conference. Torres is a baller and will be a very good player for WSU. We all know Marshall will get the most out of his guys. Biggest question is where WSU’s second five will finish?

8. Temple - as always, the biggest mystery to me in the conference. New coach so it will be interesting to see how that changes things. I’ve always liked Q Rose. Wouldn’t be surprised if they finish as high as fourth or as low as tenth.

9. Tulane - I’m putting Tulane ahead of Tulsa simply because of Dunleavy. The guy can coach and I think his team continues to improve. Probably still one more year away from making noise though.

10. Tulsa - so many transfers I just don’t know. I might have them too low but I have no faith in Haith.

11a. & 11b. ECU & USF - I honestly don’t know.

I wouldn’t pick Tulsa that low if there were no newcomers and they were using just the holdovers from last year.

I would hope you wouldn't puck Tulsa high or low...

Lol in all seriousness every team has newcomers each year. Tulsa returns four of our top 6 players, a freshman who saw good playing time and several bench players. Taplin has been the man at pg for a while now. Jeffries is a stat filling athletic monster. Igbanu just got stronger and stronger last year and was a solid contributer from the beggininng of the season. Scott hasn't been super starish but gets his and has a smooth shot. All are returners who played significant minutes and play different positions on the floor.

Korita showed signs and was solid off the bench and with some starts. Joiner saw good playing time as a freshman and looked very solid at times. Missed the end of the season with an injury so we will have to see how that effects his progression and if it changes his game. Jackson saw sporadic playing time, showed some signs he could be a very good defender and should continue to develop his senior year.

Those are all players from last year's 4th place team. We lost Etou and Henderson as major contributors. Wheeler was always kind of hit or miss. You have no faith in Haith? What if I told you he has the thrid most conference wins out of everyone since Tulsa joined? Or that Tulsa only finished below fifth once and could have finished fifth with a win in their final conference game that one year?

I can't wait for January

RE: AAC predictions
We've finished relatively high in the standings each year, but we've also been 5th, 5th, 8th, 6th in KenPom each year.

It all depends on how we replace Etou and whether one of the many guards steps up to take some of the load off Taplin. I still believe in Joiner, but he was disastrously bad in conference play last year. It may end up being Zeke Moore in the Corey Henderson role instead.

With less than a month until the season begins it’s good to see we’re rounding into form here.

RE: AAC predictions
I got UCF FIRST ... But if Tacko don't finally pan out ???
Cincy is second ... Memphis third ... Houston fourth ... UConn fifth.
Then SMU, WSU, Temple and Tulsa. I'm staying away from picking the last three ...
Oh ... And Memphis wins the tournament and gets the bid ... 03-shhhh
