CUSA is a power conference.
Was in the grocery store and saw the college basketball preview magazines. They now separate between power conferences and mid-majors. CUSA and the MVC, A10 and MAC are included in the power conferences. This is a good thing because those teams getting extensive write up’s. Also great for perception and recruiting. Let’s go prove them right.

That is good news. What magazine? I want to pick one up.

Lindys and Street & Smiths. Top four were Marshall, WKU, UTSA and ODU.

Does the new basketball scheduling format take effect this year? If so, that top 4 is going to see each other plenty. Wonder if we all take care of business OOC how many bids we could get in the NCAA.

I'm excited to see how the new format works. I'm also excited knowing Marshall has a couple of big games scheduled such as @Maryland and @Virginia. Would love to knock off one of them.

As Island said, if Top 4 can do good OOC does the new format improve our chances of getting 2 bids?

RE: CUSA is a power conference.
Back when we announced the new format, I remember reading an interview with the guy who came up with the idea. The purpose wasnt necessarily to get more than one bid, but to improve our auto bid from the 12-14 seed to something better. If it helps more teams get in, then that's just bonus. This is more of a response to the committee refusing to give non power5 and big east schools At-large bids.

Mark Adams is name of the guy....I agree with a lot of his thoughts but my position has always been as long as there are humans on selection committee we do not have a chance. They will move the goal posts and point out something else that benefits these P5 conf. teams and will always gives those teams an advantage over any of us....

My humble yet accurate opinion is the only teams that stand a chance at an at-large bid are Marshall and WKU. They would need to have an absurdly strong OOC showing (as well as in-conference). I think one or the other could get in.

The case for Marshall - they won their NCAAT game last year and their NBA draft pick returns to play.

The case for WKU - recruiting buzz and future NBA talent.

Of course, my guess goes out the window if they can't win OOC games. If they don't do stuff OOC then all this is mute point and it won't matter.

I think the most important thing to remember about the conference schedule pods is those last 4 games are going to be way more fun now, and the entire conference schedule is that much more important in order to get into the top pod. Adds another layer of fun for us.

Out of Washington, West Virginia, UCF/St Joes, Arkansas, Belmont, St Mary's, Wisconsin-if we go 6-2 against this lineup and take care of business in conf. with only 2-3 losses you would think that would be enough for us to at least be in the conversation for an at large. We have a non conf. schedule to get an at large bid for sure. What will hurt us is Bearden being out for a lot of those games mentioned and we are still very very young, I can see us being a little slow out of the gate with such a young team....

Poke fun at the American all you want, but they certainly get coverage on ESPN and ABC as if they're the 6th major conference in football. Which is what I'm assuming their P6 marketing campaign is geared towards(football). As it pertains to basketball, there is no doubt that the American is considered a power conference.

They get better coverage than the other G conferences but they absolutely do NOT get coverage equal to or even in the same neighborhood with the P conferences. They generally get 1-2 games on major TV (networks/ESPN/ESPN2) depending on the opponent and if they're playing on a weeknight. Everything else is on second-tier channels or streaming. Again, much better than CUSA but there's no way the ACC or Big 12 would be happy with that kind of coverage.

In basketball, they get better coverage than the PAC 12 and not that far behind in football either. Nobody gets the PAC 12 Network on basic packages like the BIG Network, SEC Network and the soon to launch ACC Network. So not sure how some of that couldn't be considered at the very least equal coverage. PAC 12 struggles in a lot sports and some argument could be made the American is a better football conference right now. The Big 12 has no network, but does get a great payout per team with only 10 members.

They also get CBS games for basketball. They're on CBS Sports Network too, but they get at least 3 to 4 CBS network games in basketball too.
