If Murphy doesn't win 20 next year he will need to win 20 next year assuming his contract is not terminated early. In a perfect world Murphy could wait for Dillard and James to develop. But he doesn't have that luxury next year if he doesn't win 20 this season. Expect him to load up again with JUCOs.

We have one scholarship player on our roster that entered as a freshman. Jalen King, to me, is a "freeze frame", three years ago he is the same player as he is today. If Murphy is the coach, then JUCO's are the way to go.

EMU79 in a perfect world Murphy is no longer the EMU coach and he’s replaced with some one who has a conference ceiling of winning 14-16 games or more. I don’t know how we will be better next season when we’re losing the MACs best center.

That what people said when we lost Minnie Thompson and Jackson right?

True but did either one of them dominate their senior year? Toure is the dominant center in the MAC.

RE: 2020 Men's Basketball Recruiting
Toure has been indispensable lately, and is easily our most valuable player, but I’d largely attribute that to not having much behind him. That’s why I wish Murphy would’ve recruited another center this past offseason. King hustles, but he struggles to get rebounds, often slapping at the ball against smaller defenders. You can’t have a center that can’t rebound.

It’s imperative that we recruit two centers for 2020, in order to maximize the ceiling of our impending senior-heavy squad. We have a chance to be pretty good next season if we can even marginally replace Toure.

And remember we pick up a medical redshirt, Gibson. He is like a new recruit.

I wonder who Gibson will take minutes from? We don’t lose any forwards, unless Groce grad transfers (I don’t even want to think about that). With the emergence of Spottsville, we are at least two deep at all positions except center. That’s why I’m surprised we are recruiting guards, especially JUCO’s.

Agree as of today, but what did it look like say a month ago?

That said, I would go for two centers.

Clarification Small forward=wing

I'm surprised that no one said that as we go very small can Groce play the '5'?

Can Ballard play 5 minutes per game at the '5'?

Assuming '79's numbers (3 LOIs to give):

I would go 2 centers and 1 guard OR 1 center, 1 forward and 1 guard, with the caveat that the forward be say 6' 8" and say 220 or more and can play some decent minutes as a backup '5'.

P.S. I don't know why Groce would transfer. He has found himself at EMU and has his mother nearby.

I think it will be a guard center and wing

Where are we getting 3 scholarships from? I’m only seeing 2, and it may really just be 1 if Parris (who Murphy conformed is redshirting) doesn’t transfer. Unless Pacheco isn’t a scholarship player, which there is no indication that this is the case.

I assume Parris will graduate and be a grad transfer.

You are correct.

The assumption is that maybe one player would transfer.

Will it happen? Who knows.

My range has always been 2 to 4. We will see.

RE: 2020 Men's Basketball Recruiting
If Murphy wins 20 this year I think we get 2 players. If not I think he will find every spare scholarship he can find to load up with junior college guys to go with the returnees for next year. Someone brought up Pacheo. He's a redshirt this year and has four years to play. He could leave at the end of this year and go anywhere he wants. Remember scholarships are renewed on an annual basis.

If Murphy doesn't win 20 this year and comes back next year even if he wins 20 next year his current contract is over at the end of next season. He will want to load up for the 20-21 season to win as many games as possible to either induce our AD to give him a new contract or be an attractive candidate somewhere else. He will also want players if he does come back to EMU to go with James and Dillard if they are still here.
