RE: 2020 Men's Basketball Recruiting
EMU will be 100% unable to recruit this kid but it is worth putting him here. The story has been posted elsewhere before.

Emoni Bates, a freshman at Ypsilanti Lincoln, might be the best player in his class (2022). Not in the state of MI, but nationally.

What will be crazy is that he'll probably attend some EMU games simply because high school players like watching college basketball and EMU is close.

https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports...570549002/

And play games at our Convo, too:

"Lincoln will be playing in showcase tournaments with Bates on board, opening the season in the Ypsilanti Tip-Off Classic Nov. 26 against Ann Arbor Huron at Eastern Michigan’s Convocation Center, then playing in the Horatio Williams Foundation Tip-Off Classic Dec. 1, facing Ferndale.

“It’s going to be fun so I’m looking forward to it,” Emoni said of his upcoming freshman season. “I can’t wait.”

BTW, as Emoni progresses to his junior and senior years, maybe some big high school tourneys will come to the Convo.

It could be a golden era for local prep hoops.

Emoni has borderline Lebron in high school buzz around him.
He also has the game to back it up.

RE: 2020 Men's Basketball Recruiting
Sounds like we have an incoming transfer. Chris Barnes, 6’4 200 guard who played two years at Tulsa.

Pretty sure he’s a sit-out, but already redshirted once. I’ll try to dig some more.

EDIT: We are his third school. Started his career at UTEP and transferred to Tulsa after one year. He’ll have one season here.

EDIT #2: Eligible right away, per this tweet

Murphy's pulling out everything too try and win in 2020! 1 year transfer, multiple 2 year transfers, and JUCO's! I think this team will surprise us!!!!! We finally have some shooters! Biggest concern is a true PG! Micah Thomas has potential to score 20 plus every night!

Hope you’re right. I don’t think Murphy should still be employed, but I’ll never root for losses. If we can put a competitive product on the floor and win some games, I’ll be happy. Who knows how the new guys will do until we see them on the court together. I can’t remember going into a season with this many question marks. Even more so than Murphy’s first year.

Eagle Sam, I couldn't agree more! This is basically a brand new team! We bring back ballpark 10 to 12 points a game! If Parris and one of the freshman can play the PG position, then this team should be able to score! Along, as Murphy runs a up tempo offense!

RE: 2020 Men's Basketball Recruiting
I am curious if we lost someone because I thought we were at the 13 scholie limit. Maybe one of the jucos had clearinghouse issues and was not eligible to play this year. I guess we will know when an official roster is released.

I completely forgot. I assume we have two scholarships to give and need a JUCO or prep center (or I guess a grad transfer center).

RE: 2020 Men's Basketball Recruiting
Monday Morning Musings...

Do we need guards? Would it be best to go big with both scholarships and if one (or more) open in Spring, go guards?? In one or two years we will need to replace Toure', King and Groce. That's the bulk of the muscle on the team.

If I'm Murphy I hold at least one scholarship for a center. Then I look for my second highest priority.

RE: 2020 Men's Basketball Recruiting
We obviously need a center, and I’m sure Murphy will go the JUCO or transfer route for that. I honestly wouldn’t mind using the other scholarship on a 4-year center, either. We don’t need anymore guards or forwards for 2020/21.
