He's a redshirt this year and has four years to play. He could leave at the end of this year and go anywhere he wants. Remember scholarships are renewed on an annual basis.

If Murphy doesn't win 20 this year and comes back next year even if he wins 20 next year his current contract is over at the end of next season. He will want to load up for the 20-21 season to win as many games as possible to either induce our AD to give him a new contract or be an attractive candidate somewhere else. He will also want players if he does come back to EMU to go with James and Dillard if they are still here.

Couple of thoughts (to your comments):

The only transfer which makes sense for a redshirt frosh is to a JUCO. Otherwise, he has a redshirt year AND a transfer sitout out year. Who wants to sitout two consecutive years and then have only THREE years to play?

I don't understand all of the talk of Murphy not coming back and therefore X, Y, and Z. If the rest of the season goes well, the AD can tack on an extra season beyond next year.

We can make this all moot by winning say 3 of the last 5 and then 2 games in the MAC tourney (opening round and the quarterfinals). That would = 20 wins. Don't even need to factor in a post season tourney.

EMU's record is 15 - 11, 4th best in the MAC. We have a 3-game win streak, 2nd best in the conference behind Akron (4-game streak).

Murphy has a very strong nucleus of players coming back from a team which is now winning (again) and seems very cohesive, etc.

Murphy has a lot of rising seniors and has to factor that into his recruiting. That is the problem with JUCOs: They play their junior year and the staff has to plan to replace them. Kind of like a Hollywood marriage, don't plan on the long haul.

I have predicted long before this winning streak that Murphy would be back. However, don't count your chickens before they hatch. There's alot of IFS in this season scenarios. Also don't discount that there are many out there who don't like Murphy and would like to see a change and are vocal with the AD of telling him so. I think we all agree that Toure will be difficult to replace. Oh by the way did you see the most recent offers were for PGs and small forwards? I am encouraged by the recent play and have enjoyed my 5 home games I've attended this year to watch this team play.

Yeah, but fans are like D.C. weather - it changes faster than I can type.

This is quickly turning out to be a good rebuild season and that is all we could hope for.

If Toure' had another season of eligibility, we would be the pre-season MAC West pick next year.

When it comes to Murphy there are some strong opinions. Time to visit our pre conference predictions? I have to wonder out loud how Gibson's recovery from an apparent ACL is going? There is one name out there I am watching to see if we offer, a nice rebounder and shot blocker from a highly rated D1 JUCO. I will post his name if we offer. We do scout a ton of guys both for 2020 and 2021. One of the recent offers we made didn't surprise me the other three were a complete surprise. The good news is we are offering guys with at least 2 D1 offers and in alot of cases multiple D1 offers.

I said 17-15, and 8-10 in conference play! If we made some FT, I would've been way off! I'm surprised we did offer a high school player recently! We need a center who can score and defend badly!

In all due regard to our posters (and that includes me), no AD is going to let us make decisions based on our weather-like whims.

There are some bipolar fans on here seemingly enjoying another less than 0.500 MAC record.

Like Jerry said in related posts, the MAC west has less than stellar coaching and is ripe for the right guy to make a great run at a few championships. Murphy will never get EMU close to a MAC Championship and has a below .500 MAC record.

I want him out!!! I predicted 7 wins in conference and he might hit it. However his notorious bad starts will expel this team perhaps after 1 conference tournament win because low seeds play to exhaustion if they win.

I’m ready for a new coach to try and win here!

I have a very, very good friend who is a season ticket holder of an A-10 school and he says his school's fans are like our fans, they are like the weather. Record warmth and and then record cold.

I remember C.C.'s mother (in the Bahamas) making a comment to me about fans posting when C.C. was at Drake. Obvious fans negative comments aren't appreciated.

Whenever I've spoken to Heather or Scott, or Christian any other highly ranked officials I stay positive and stay out of personnel matters, to boot.

I donate, root and otherwise remember my 11th commandment, "Never speak ill of EMU." Nothing good comes from it. And the 2nd part of my 11th commandment, "Never post anything covered by privacy act, privileged or sensitive unless it is already out on the internet."

I will never break such a story. I knew very early on about D. Reed's death (a player's parent asked me what I had heard) but I withheld his name from my posts as it would have been COMPLETELY inappropriate to put it out public before it was released by local law enforcement or EMU. All I posted what was I found on MLive who had the story pretty early. If I remember the story correctly it was a robbery of his iPhone (struggle and gun shot). I believe the deceased had his ID on his possession when his body was found in a stairwell where he live or he was identified by his roommates. So EMU players, coaches, etc. knew very early what had happened and who the victim was.

We can make this all mute by winning say 3 of the last 5 and then 2 games in the MAC tourney (opening round and the quarterfinals).

In all due regard to our posters (and that includes me), no AD is going to let us make decisions based on our weather-like whims.

No it will be the ADs weather like whims

Offering all of these wings, plus getting Gibson, has me really worried about Groce.

I think Gibsons ACL injury recovery may not be going as well as hoped. Recall Micah Thomas was also recovering from ACL and was gone

Put Micah Thomas on our team next season, Gibson, and stud grad transfer center, as much as I'm not A Murphy fan we win the MAC next season!

Nope, I don’t believe so.

Fact is, we are returning every wing next season, yet we are still recruiting the position (and JUCO’s, no less). Makes think that there will be some inevitable attrition. Groce seems like the only one that makes immediate sense, due to possibly being able to graduate early. Hope I’m wrong.

And still no big man offers. Brace yourselves for Jalen King and...Pacheco?

Gibson sat out this year and could transfer without sitting a year. I hope you're wrong about Groce too
