Possible NIT Tournament Expansion
https://thesouthern.com/sports/college/s...a2e08.html

A couple months old, but seems interesting.

Basically there is some consideration, though obviously nothing official as of yet, about the prospect of the NIT Tournament expanding again to 40 teams in 2020.

I figure if they actually go through with this, odds are the overwhelming majority of the 8 additional teams will either be from the basketball Power 7 conferences, or the one or two other odd conferences that manage to pick up one or two at large bids every year, such as the Atlantic 10.

Granted, back in the early 2000s the NIT was briefly expanded to 40 teams and really didn't open the path for mid major schools, at that time, the NCAA Tournament was at 65 teams, having just added the first play-in game. Today, with 68 teams and 4 play in games, I would suspect that several of the teams that would have made the NIT 40 team bracket back in the early 2000s would make one of the four play in games today.
