I bet you are just a joy to be around.

I mean he’s not wrong.

Its a small and decreasing fan base, but I think we are still close enough to better times not too far back in rear view mirror where NIU would support a big event like that. If this current course continues another 3 to 5 years, its probably lights out.

We can go undefeated and that still is not going to happen. I mean our 2012 Greatest Team Ever, ironically could not beat Iowa or Florida State!!!

This team can finish the year having had a very great season, they still are in the drivers seat and right where any realistic fan hopes them to be.

Some could argue that the 2003 team was the best team ever. Although, they lost to 2 games. That team was special. Beat AL, Iowa State and Maryland. But, lost to Toledo and Bowling Green??. Toledo was ranked I believe that year at the end as well.

I believe it was BG that was ranked - at least they were when NIU played them. Toledo was pretty good too - had a good record and knocked off a ranked Pitt team that year.

The Alabama team that NIU beat was better than the Nebraska team, the Purdue team, or the Northwestern team than NIU beat more recently.

Toledo beat a top-10 Pitt team with Larry Fitzgerald in the Glass Bowl.

Miami finished top 10 and beat Northwestern, Louisville, & Cincinnati.

Bowling Green finished ranked and beat a top-20 Purdue while playing top-5 defending national champ Ohio St within a touchdown.

Both NIU and BGSU were ranked when Doyt Perry hosted College Gameday.

A former member of this board was gracious enough to send me a DVD copy of the BG game from 2003 with the raw ESPN feed. I was just watching the beginning of this the other night and thought wow, a time when the big wigs at ESPN actually respected NIU and the MAC. Well then I watched the raw feed during commercial break and Fowler was making fun of the BGSU crowd saying their chants sounded like a high school game. He really came off as a smug arrogant idiot.

That’s amazing - a true part of history. Watching it on YouTube gives you chills. Vaguely recall it but wish it happened when older to drive, attend, and fully grasp what was happening.

To this day, #12 NIU @ #23 BGSU remains the only College Gameday between 2 G5 Top 25 teams (unless you count Utah/TCU’s MWC days).

Where did he get the raw feed from? What a historic gem.

It would have been an even better gem had the Huskies won :)
