According to NCAA.com they are ranked #94 in total defense as if today. No doubt they jumped several spots after playing against the Huskie O yesterday. So, yeah, they're bad.

Ball State's defense seemed similar to CMUs. Not as good as EMUs but not bad. We'll face worse defenses against WMU and Toledo, though they have better offenses.

Not TRUE! The announcer clearly does not know what he is saying. I attended 3 practices and in ALL 3 Childers had atleast 1 pick. I will say that at times he has looked really really good in practice but there always seems to be the one or two head scratching throws he would make. To me, this translates to everything we see come game day.

In all seriousness, the few times I attended summer camp he was the least impressive out of the bunch. Runs high, not elusive, and no breakway speed. He does have very good size though, I will give him that. I suppose it does not matter since Harbs and Nettles will be here for atleast 2 more years.

He has an official 10.89 100m. No on on the team outside of Wesley has that speed. Honestly, maybe 2 or 3 Huskies have sub 11 second 100m in the last 10 years. Rowell has huge top end speed. His 200m is sub 22 which is amazingly fast. He may not have quickness. And should be moved to wr. But fast? Yes. 2nd fastest guy on team as far as top end speed.

I did not know this about his times. But I think we are arguing two different things.
Speed vs Quickness. Rowell is tall so that means he is a long strider, can cover more ground per stride equating to speed. Although great for the 100m and 200m, football plays rely more on quickness (your are not running 100m or 200m on the field). I think why his speed does not translate to the field (atleast the times I have seen him) his initial first steps ie. quickness does not seem to show up on the football field.

For sure. Quickness is way more valuable at RB than top end speed. And track speed is not necessarily football speed. But it's a decent indicator. He CAN run fast, but he just plays slow. Take Rowell's size and speed and try him at wr. Its the only place were you can let someone run 50 yards in a straight line once a game. Stacked at RB for the next few years anyhow. Unless he wants to bulk up to FB.

In high school, Rowell ran outside the tackles a lot and accelerated past people 10 to 15 yards downfield and he's definitely not shifty like Nettles. Which may be why some people considered him a safety prospect more than a RB prospect. Given his speed and acceleration path it seems like he would be a great fit on jet sweeps and kickoff returns (which he did in high school) WR could be a consideration too as he would be our Willie Gault.
