RE: Attendance
the announced attendance was under 40,000 if I read correctly - for a national game vs a Top 10 opponent
after the rain began, it looked like half of that

RE: Attendance
I always hope for better but I was proud of the fans that showed up. They were into the game and made it a fun first half. I was really proud of so many who stayed in it until the end. Not great but not a bad showing by our usual fair weather fan base.

RE: Attendance
I thought we were pretty loud in the first half.
I think the 38K official figure is a little short, but not by terribly much.
Bless all of us that stayed in the rain.
Seriously, why leave? You're going to get wet on your long walk out of the Liberty Bowl anyway.

RE: Attendance
I'm not concerned about me in the rain. I'm just a fan. I came home soaking wet shivering like a wet dog after the 4th Q
But, once again introduce rain and it's like poison.
Perfect Weather 1st Half = 30-17 Tigers
Rain starts HT and relentless through 2nd Half = 14-0 UCF
It's so tough to watch. Reminds me of my childhood puppy dog that didn't want to get his paws wet anytime it was wet outside.

RE: Attendance
Not to get all BACK IN MY DAY,
But I was at that miserably cold rainy game v. Tennessee in 2000. The one where we lost in the last minute on a GW field goal.
Of course, there were plenty of Tennessee fans there. But it was cold and rainy all day. It was close to a sellout.
Central Florida is a T10 team. Tennessee was like 8-5 that year. I'm never going to deny that a game v. Tennessee is going to draw more fanfare than a game v. any Central Florida team. But no one went home because of the rain.

Conf. game. And do you think anything can be done to improve it? Thanks.
History.........Shouldn't be this way but losses to a mediocre Navy team, weak Tulane & that in addition to a weak home schedule. Expect a much better crowd for UCF if weather is decent.
In addition we’ve had 65 years of poor performance in Football, so much so that the administration chose basketball for its major support because the price saved $$$. Now it is going to take a winning team with a winning coach for more than 4 or 5 years to erase the memories of tomato can preformances. Mike Norvell I believe, is the man for the new history in this new decade.

If they used scanner results , then 38k was low. I know at least 6 that the scanner did not work on. The person entering in front of my wife , got a beep. After about 6 tries, the lady told my wife ok, mine never worked and same thing. My brother and his wife behind me, same thing-- never a beep. Talked to the person behind us as we were walking up and he felt they did get a good scan on his group as well -- so who really knows.
Does anybody know the number of tickets sold and can we find that out ? Would love to know that for comparison.

I've also heard the same from students who just get "waved in" when entering the stadium. The student section has been pretty consistent, so if we're not counting some portion of those students, then that's potentially +1,000 alone. . . .

RE: Attendance
My theory is that the student section isn't being counted at all.
Some games that could be 5K in uncounted attendance.

RE: Attendance
Bowen on purpose did not announce season tickets sales for this year. Not sure what the strategy is behind this.

We used to announce tickets sold (like most everyone else), why are we reporting the scanner attendance vs. tickets sold?

Central Florida brought perhaps 200 fans. I was at the same UT game. There was probably 20k UT fans and that would make a 20k difference. 40k for UCF with 200 UCF fans, 60k for UT with 20k UT fans. 20k/60k is about 33%, which would seem about right.
Remember, in 2000, UT was only 2 years away from its National Championship, so there were a TON more UT 'fans' from Memphis. Now that UT hasn't sniffed a BCS bowl game this century, not nearly as many 'I bleed urnge' Memphis-based UT fans nowadays. I know, I had to endure some Hillbilly wannabe during that 2000 game and never saw him again.
UCF may be a 'top 10' team but they certainly do not draw like one.

39k for UCF on a cold rainy day is OK...I'm hoping weather cooperates for the Memphis vs Houston regular season finale.

RE: Attendance
I'm not trying to compare Central Florida to Tennessee for obvious reasons. And there were much more than 200 UCF people there Saturday, for the record.
Just saying that 2000 Tennessee game, everyone knew they were going to be wet and cold and no one left early.
