This is a well Gill-coached game. Lose to NMSU and win the next week against Troy.

What do you think the score will be? This isn’t a typical sbc team.

I think closer to a one-score game like 35-28 or so.

If we keep it to a one possession game you get +2 rep points.
6 points — that’s one possession!

Seriously, this is a huge win for LU and (unlike the ODU game) it comes against a genuinely talented/motivated opponent. Auburn is the only remaining game on the schedule that the Flames can’t win. I can’t say that I expect LU to beat Virginia but the simple fact is that the Cavs are no better than Troy. If the Flames are truly “up” for that game and play at their peak, they can take that game and go 8-4 on the season.

I’m a man of my word, the 2 points were added. I highly doubt we go 8-4. I do think it’s highly possible to go 6-6. 7-5 is also manageable.

I am amazed we won. Great job team! Still not happy about the season and direction of the program but I will enjoy the wins when they come. And it's always good to put the Sun Belt in their place!

You pay much closer attention than I do, but from this distance I see a program making huge strides, with two wins that were unexpected and no bad losses.

Every game is a unique challenge. LU could certainly lose to Idaho State if they’re not ready and in the right frame of mind. But the trajectory is undeniably headed in the right direction. My honest prediction is 7-5 and then keep fingers crossed that there’s an extra space on the bowl-list.

He is talking about inconsistency. LU had no business losing to NMSU. The second half performance against NM. It’s too much up and down for us fans. Throw in the fact Gill stated our tackling is an issue but we still don’t live tackle in practice. We’ve done great things but our coaching is questionable at best.

Just this year, how do we beat one of the best Sun Belt teams (despite missing their starting QB but the backup is a transfer from Oklahoma I think) after giving up 49 points to a team that averaged less than 15 points a game and was one of the worst teams in FBS in New Mexico State? How do we beat ODU by 30+ before being totally out of the game against Army?

Last year we beat Baylor and lost to a partual scholarship team. A year after making the FCS playoffs for the first time and winning a road playoff game, we returned most of the team including the starting QB and we dropped to 6-5 and that includes FBS teams App State and bowl bound Georgia State. Gill has been 6-5 his last three years and the Big South isn't a juggernaut. Liberty should get more for their money.

RE: Here We Go - Troy Game
@GE and MTS. Exactly and this is why Gill and most of staff should not be in their position as we will be officially FBS. They are not the staff we need moving forward. We should not be paying for a coach with mediocre records from FCS and then continue the roller coaster for our season based on our record. Yes we win interesting games but hearing Gill/staff at the press conference makes me (and hopefully McCaw) realize that LU will not progress at this level. His past prestige is played out now. We should’ve learned from the Kansas fan base a decade ago.

We beat down ODU. ODU beat down VA Tech. All we need to do now is take down UVA!

Gill's the MAN! COGS

RE: Here We Go - Troy Game
I want to win with Gill, but time and again, his playcalling is atrocious. His never electing to kick off the game and take the ball in the second half bewilders me. The decision to punt at the end of the first half was a headscratcher, and then his inability to run the clock out with 1.40 left was frightening. I think we need another coach, but I don't think he's going anywhere. We just need to hope for the best.

I like Coach Gill. Congrats HCTG on a big win over a tough team and having us at 3-3 in our first true FBS season.

RE: Here We Go - Troy Game
My guess you will beat
Idaho State
New Mexico State
Norfolk State
fairly easily

If you guys go 6-6 you MIGHT get a bowl game but likely not.

The game that will decide whether you go bowling is umass.

If you guys go 7-5 your chance of going to a bowl game
goes up exponentially.

Our chance at a bowl game will be the same if we go 6-6 or 7-5. We will be the last team to go because of transition rules. Also Idaho St is an FBS level team this year. I expect a good game and won’t be surprised if we lose that one.

Correct.

You’re talking about their overall talent? Maybe.

They’re not in most of the FCS Top 25 polls that I’ve seen. A few have them in the 20-25 range, but mostly in the also-receiving-votes category.

Yes, I’m talking about talent. They were technically ranked 27th this past week. They beat down Idaho who just dropped from FBS to FCS this year(62-28). They went to OT with UC Davis (ranked 14th and they beat San Jose St this year). They beat a N Arizona by 14 (the same team that beat UTEP BY 20). Are they NDSU? No, but they are a good team in one of the best FCS conferences. They have the ability to beat a lot of lower tier G5 schools. We should win this game but I think this is a trap so I think they will spoil homecoming. Idaho St 49 Liberty 45.
