Halfway Point of the Season: Good, Bad & Ugly Opinions
Good: This nightmare of a season is halfway over. Both Duhart and Fulgham look like they're going to be playing on Sundays. Ximines on pace for 14 sacks and LaRussa is on pace to put up David Washington type passing numbers minus playing 4 fewer games than DW did.

Bad: Coaches needed to make the change at QB sooner in the season. The offense is clicking with BL steering the ship. LaRussa is 102 /155 for 1318 Yards 65.8% 9 TD vs. Williams 41/81 for 507 yards 50.6% completion 2 TD.

Ugly: DEFENSE, oline and play calling.

I would have to put special teams in the ugly. The kicking game has been brutal.

You're right. Punting has been really good though :D

I'd be willing to bet that Duhart gets drafted ahead of Ximines!

I don't know if there was any truth but the announcer said last night that coach Wilder said Fulgham is getting more NFL scout interest than Duhart.

I would say for the most part the kicking team has kept teams pretty well contained minus a few big returns. I don't know all the stats sights for looking that up.

Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.

Offense-OK to a point, oline may be improving, running game improving last few games, play calling still needs work
Defense-inexcusable, heads have to roll.
Special teams- I break down to kick off's- ok, punting -meh, field goals-horrible.

Good:
Quarterback play.
Wide Receiver play top notch.

Bad:
Running game
Simplistic offensive scheme, literally the antithesis of Temple's (now that is a beautiful offense, and because it is complex, should improve each week)
*Offensive line (not sure how much of this is scheme).
FG unit.
Critical situation play calling. (admittedly that worked at FCS. It has not worked at FBS)
Recruiting

Ugly:
Defense

The Good and Ugly seem to be definitive absolutes with this program since day one.

I'd be willing to bet that Duhart gets drafted ahead of Ximines!

As a former NFL agent, you are wrong about that. Ximines will be a second round pick. Duhart is not fast enough to be drafted high. He has not even been on draft boards before this season. If he runs a 4.6, then maybe 5-7 round. If he runs a 4.7 which is what he was pegged at as a recruit, he won't be drafted and will be an UDFA. Fulgham has no chance to be drafted. He does not have the hands or ball skills.

I respectfully and heavily disagree.

RE: Halfway Point of the Season: Good, Bad & Ugly Opinions
Good: The level at these kids can play when they are motivated. Offense after Blake took over the reigns sans the head scratching decisions that we seem to make more often these days.
Baaaaahd: Play calling and the fearful tree hugging during the 3rd and longs on defense and 3rd/4th and shorts on offense.
Ugly: Defense and that Liberty Coach taking Bobby to the woodshed.

RE: Halfway Point of the Season: Good, Bad & Ugly Opinions
The Good: Tailgating with VT fans before the game, and watching their smug faces turn to disbelief as their team got sent packing. The team seems to show up and play competitively 'most of the time'. Watching Duhart and Fulgham win jumpballs with short DBs.

The Bad: Still have 6 games to slug through with an inconsistent team, coaching, playcalling, uninspiring defensive schemes, pedestrian run game with that same stupid up the middle run that seems to go nowhere 95% of the time. Listening to Wilder's excuses for the sad on the field results.

The Ugly: Having to watch self-destruction with boneheaded missed assignments -- giving unearned points that we can't afford. One of the slowest starting teams in recent memory (like they didn't get properly warmed up). The final scoreboard that, with the exception of the VT game. always sings a sad song.

RE: Halfway Point of the Season: Good, Bad & Ugly Opinions
Good:

Effort. The guys are battling
WR play
Ximines

Bad:
Run blocking
DL play outside of oshane

Ugly:
Secondary

There is no excuse for the defense being this bad. Changes have to be made at the end of the year.

Our defensive coaches have had enough time. They have talent in place. They dont have injuiries. Its time for change on that side of the ball.
