Syracuse. IMO B1G would’ve added them with Maryland if ACC hadn’t already taken them off the table.

Syracuse withdrew from the AAU days after Nebraska got kicked out. Because they knew they were next in line to get kicked out.

They would have taken Nebraska anyway. Or they would simply have moved up their invite upon hearing that they might be kicked out. They must have known how relatively poor their academics were even before they were booted.

Nebraska had been at risk of being expelled from the AAU since 2000ish. The Big 10 was likely aware of that.

I guess that's one reason to think Nebraska might have gotten the invite anyway.

Nothing would have changed. Nebraska was taken as a content addition. As for WVU they have formally applied to the SEC twice. The first application in '91 was tabled. Which means we weren't interested but we don't officially reject anyone. It's a courtesy. The second time we sent them a prospectus on what had to be done in the way of sports offered, and facilities upgrades before they could meet minimum requirements for the SEC to consider them.

West Virginia would not add to what the SEC's current distribution to member schools would be. They are not an option for the SEC today.

That's it. End of Story.

Agreed. This was coming for some time. And those on the committee with UNL’s AAU membership in their hands included Big Ten school reps.

The vote to admit UNL into the Big Ten was still unanimous.

I am pretty sure the B1G knew about Nebraska. They just sold out on their academic standards to get a national brand, which is now regional and insignificant.

They could market the addition with over a century of courtship between the two sides. And that Nebraska served as a model for how the midwestern land grant schools operated. There's historical ties between the two...it made sense for it to happen.

Problem is, that same history may still prove maybe too much time had passed.
