I suspect with the Gov. & Lt. Gov. being indies and against Kavanaugh because of the tribal rights issue, the GOP conference got together and decided she would be allowed not to vote yes.

She doesn't have to vote at all, the GOP just needs a simple majority of those present so 50 - 48 works too.

The Washington Post Senate reporter noted how no fellow party members were there to watch/support her.

She basically inherited the senate seat from her father. AK needs to do better than her.

Say what you will about Murkowski, but she has survived some rough political fights before and she won’t be easy to beat. It will take just the right candidate who has appeal to both the grassroots-types and the donor/establishment types in Alaska. Such a candidate may exist, or may not.

I agree

She is a creature of the system. She would not have voted the way she did if she was in fear of being ousted. Too much time between this vote and 2022.

Reading more about her, I see she campaigned with the endorsement of the NRA in her last election (2016). I don’t think that makes her bullet-proof all by itself, but it’s a big help.
