Yeah, it was a pretty good year. But are you really challenging me to post Nevada game screen caps?

No challenge. I'm choosing to remember a great game with a great result from last year. The thread is about thanking Mick. If you want to start a beetch thread about the coach then have at it.

Love ya 1992, but there is no reason to start a beetch thread. This thread was fair game for that. Some people do not think we need to thank Cronin, and that should be ok for a message board.

Back at ya rtaylor and I get the message board thing. My angle is every thread about basketball or Mick turns out the same crew saying the same negative things and it gets old sometimes. This past season IMO was one of the best ever in the Mick Cronin era save for ONE game at the very end. When you stack up all the hardware for the coach, the players and the program it cannot be denied.

Question for all you never satisfied Mick bashers...

You all say that it's much, much better to lose farther into the tournament than in the lowly second round. At least you can put up better banners, right?

Say UC makes it to the championship game... has a 22 point lead with 11 minutes left... and blows it.

Is Mick still an idiot? Or do we say "well, at least we had a heck of a ride"...?

Which is it?

The blow is definitely softened in a championship game. Odds are, you are playing a 1 or 2 seed, so you can expect them to put up a good fight/comeback, not a 7 seed you are expected to wax the floor against.

Anyone who blows a 22 point lead with 11 minutes will be called an idiot and is fair game for second guessing. Seriously?

Yeah, seriously.

He would have made it past the first weekend and gotten that coveted trip to the final four. That's what's important, right?

...At least that's all I heard when I tried to make the point that there's one winner and the 63 losers were all in the same boat.

Um, a 7 seed is in theory one of the top 28 teams in the country.

That means that there aren't too many slouches getting 7 seeds.

If we reflect on Cronin's history, he's beaten a higher-seeded team once in his coaching career.

That's telling.

RE: Thank you Mick Cronin!
I’ll thank Mick for trying to be the best at coaching basketball and building men. Not a person who tries to be the best cheater. He has a few coaching flaws but he has built the program back to very respectable but not elite.

My biggest disappoint is he seems a bit too loyal to his assistants. A tad too stubborn at times also. As long as we stay a regular ncaa tourney team, I’m happy with him as our coach. Hopefully the new arena brings a challenging atmosphere for opponents and helps recruiting.

So, I'm guessing that you agree with Mick that "Sweet 16s" are all just cosmetics for the fans, eh?

I agree with most of the others when I say:
-Get us to the Finals and then we can actually talk about this.
-Get us to the Finals, blow a 22 point lead--in the second half--to Duke, or Kentucky, or whomever and we'll still be embarrassed but it will be so much easier than in the second round.
-Hell, just get us past the first weekend.

I'll also be even-handed here. Bob Huggins certainly did not have a great record in the tournament while he was here either.

As to "Thanking" Mick Cronin? For what??? He gets well paid to do EXACTLY what you all are crooning over. He gets well paid "not to cheat." He gets well paid to teach the game of basketball to his players and to put them into position to win games. And, if we're being frank, he's actually well paid to get his teams to win...IN MARCH. He's not doing this as some sort of heroic, virtuous, altruistic venture. He's well paid by the University to do exactly what he's doing. I don't hate the man, but we show him "thanks" by compensating him for what he's doing.

RE: Thank you Mick Cronin!
if mick were to suddenly pursue a dream job like unlv, i'd be on the phone with tom crean. he coaches georgia now (can't believe he spent a decade in bloomerton), but i think he got disillusioned with the expectations of hoosieria.

he's only 52. certainly has cache, chops. i think he'd set up shop here. cincinnati's got pretty meager expectations, we won't egg your house if you don't constantly bring home championships. furthermore, it's not exactly an insane proposition. cincinnati i think is regarded as a step up from georgia throughout the western hemisphere

and now to give you an idea of what i mean, i present pictures

He has since....

He also had more lottery picks than our current coach.
