RE: OT - MLB playoffs
Holt starting tonight for the Red Sox.

Chris Sale is not going to start game 5, the Red Sox announced tonight, due to his hospital stay, but they think he's good to go in game 6 (if there is a game 6 - Houston fans certainly hope there is).

And getting back to my first comment on Milwaukee's postseason pitching decisions, I'm dumbfounded by what Milwaukee's manager did today. He started Miley and let him throw 5 pitches before yanking him (in a pre-determined scenario pretty much). And he's going to start Miley again in game 6 I think which will be Friday in Milwaukee. Milwaukee is averaging using 6 pitchers a game in this series, and I just don't see how that strategy is going to work for them. LA's gone through the bullpen in a couple of games too, but at least Kershaw went deep into the game today for them.

I think the plan was to start a lefty, Dodgers have been using there bench extensively to platoon, so get all the right-handed hitters in there, then bring in a righty and get Dodger to burn their bench with platoon matchups. But Dodgers appear to have started what they felt was their best lineup, regardless of handedness, and did not wholesale substitute when Milwaukee went to righty.

RE: OT - MLB playoffs
Okay getting back to the Houston series, we just had one of the most controversial plays in MLB playoff history. Boston takes a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st, and Altuve apparently ties it up with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 1st. But to his credit, Mookie Betts made an amazing effort to rob him of the homer before getting tangled up a bit with a fan.

The ruling - fan interference and Altuve is called out. That's a really crazy call. Yes there was some contact but it still was an almost impossible play for Betts. Houston fans going nuts and I can't blame them. Joe West strikes again (although the replay ump had the final call but all they said is they didn't have enough evidence to overturn Joe West's call of an out).

Terrible call. I can tell you from MM that Betts was over the fence. And the idiots on replay had to see he was reaching back with his body at the fence to try to catch it. By rule not interference.

To add to that. Someone who can’t himself in position to make the call should’ve retired a long time ago.

Bad call. The MLB rule 3.16 CLEARLY states

"no interference shall be allowed when a fielder reaches over a fence, railing, rope or into a stand to catch a ball. He does so at his own risk. However, should a spectator reach out on the playing field side of such fence, railing or rope, and plainly prevent the fielder from catching the ball, then the batsman should be called out for the spectator's interference."

So not sure how this wasn't overturned on video.

Unrelated but also interesting is how quickly the fact that an Astros employee was filming during the game has become a non story. The last time a Boston team was pulled up for having a camera and filming.. its been talked about for 11 years and continuing.

Well the Astros have tied up the game 3-3 although Houston fans think the score should be at least 5-3 Houston. The Astros are hitting Porcello hard and I doubt he'll last much longer. Morton is already out for Houston, so it's going to be a battle of the pens.

Altuve is clearly hobbling, so that's a big story for the rest of the postseason obviously.

4-3 now. Kemp with a solo HR.

Porcello somehow still on the mound.

I don't think Altuve will play in the field again this postseason. Seems like he is just one too-torqued swing from taking himself out completely.

No need, really, in the ALCS. Marwin can play second and Kemp can play left. If Astros pull it out and make it to World Series, they would have home field over either Dodgers or Brewers. So 4 of 7 games would be with the DH. Question would be what to do in the NL ballpark.

The catch to win the game by Boston was a legitimate nice defensive play (as opposed to the 1st inning where Betts certainly had the effort but you just can't assume he'd make the play).

Going to be tough for Houston down 3-1 and with a hobbling Altuve, but it's not over with Verlander and Cole starting games 5 and 6 either.

It's going to be very hard for Houston to win the series now. I thought the Astros were too strong on the mound for the Red Sox, but I was wrong. Credit to Boston.

That said, an injured Altuve and a nonsense interference call have not helped. The call did end up costing the Astros game 4, and that will probably be too much for them to overcome.

RE: OT - MLB playoffs
Well there's no shame in being the 2nd best team in baseball (well at least that's how I see it - perhaps the Dodgers or Brewers pull off an upset in the World Series). Brock Holt should have a chance to win a World Series (I guess there is a tiny chance he's left off the Boston roster).

But by my unofficial calculations, he'll be aiming to become the third Rice MLB player to win a World Series, following Norm Charlton with Cincy in 1990 and Lance Berkman with the Cardinals in 2011. Eddie Dyer also managed St. Louis to a World Series title in 1946. Apologies to anyone I may have missed. Holt was with Boston in 2013 when they last won the World Series, but he wasn't on the postseason roster that year so even though he won a ring, I don't think that counts in my book.

I'm sure the Selig remnants were pulling for Milwaukee.

Regardless, die LA. Die.
