Impact players to date
After one third of the schedule which players have exceeded your expectations with their impact thus far?

My top 7 are:
1. J. Garcia Williams, Jack LB. Has a streak of nasty and finds the QB. Unexpected impact player. Working his way toward a draft pick.
2. Kendall Parham, WR. Only 9 catches but can move in the open field and at 15 yds per catch his talent is obvious. Needs to see the ball more. Hopefully this week.
3. Kris Moll, DB, rover. This sophomore is a playmaker and reads and reacts to the ball very quckly. Want to see more of him. He and Harris stand out among all our freshmen and sophomore defenders to date. That fact in itself is somewhat unexpected if you put any stock in recruiting rankings.
4. Quindarrius Thagard, DL, quietly leading the DL in tackles with 13 and a sack. No one seems to have noticed yet but if he keeps it up they will.
5. Chris Woolbright, LB. I expected a lot from him, based on the small sample size we sawlast year, so he is ranked a bit lower than he probably should be, but his impact is growing.
6. Lucious Stanley, RB. Fastest back. 6 ypc. Looking forward to seeing increased carries. A Key player in Tulane victory. We need him to mature quickly as I think he is our true #2 back.
7. Tre Crawford, LB, a bit of a surprise starter and growing impact player with 9 tackles, 2 TFL and a sack. Need more consistency.

Honorable mention. Offensive line, Brontae Harris, K.Greenwell

Those who Im still wanting to see emerge: T Johnston (is he perhaps injured or just lacking read and speed?), X Ubosi, stacy Keely when he is well, kevin Davis, a fifth defensive lineman, one or more of our stable of talented freshmen defensive players, Andre Wilson return one to the house with no team penalties.

+1

See anybody on the outside that can get a int beside Harris. Thought we were going to have a few impact freshmen.

Wilson would probably have one but for a couple of holding calls on a couple of punt returns this year.

I don't see any impact players. I see a team. Almost everyone we put on the field is making an impact. We don't have many negatives because they are being taught well.

Ok....So which members of this well taught team are playing much better than you anticipated before the season began?

We have negatives. #107 rank in penalties... 4 games 32 penalties accepted

Yeah, it's been bad and I've harped on it but the trend is positive. Only 5 of those 32 vs Charlotte. We've got to keep that number down to have a chance in Ruston.

My impact players are a group: the secondary. We've been very good back there but haven't faced a real passing team yet. Hope they continue their strong performance Saturday.

Pressuring the quarterback is a premium in football and J. Garcia Williams, Jack LB is playing great for us. J Garcia-William can get around the edge and pressure the QB, the pressure causes a disruption of timing and protection. On defense this is one of the money positions and at 6-foot-8, 245-255 pound defensive end / Jack he is a load for any tackle.

I find it interesting that Williams was a late addition to his recruiting class. And he didnt play a lot his first hear here. More evidence that Clarks team has a real eye for talent, as well as player development. Also, that even JUCO players take some time to develop into impactful players.

He didn't even take a recruiting visit to Birmingham. First time he ever was in Birmingham and first time he saw the school/facilities was when he reported.

Yeah, thats a good story. From sight unseen to defensive standout. I would really like to see Keely and him on the field together. Hard for a QB to throw over or through those trees.

I'LL agree with binn because he changed positions. Everyone else is doing about what I thought they could. The coaches have an option now with Binn to put fresh linemen in to pass rush instead of the tired starters. It helps you at the end of the game. They can mix things up. Garcia-williams and the rest of the line have stepped up.

We don't get the real injury reports anymore.

Add some green pants and that would be a great look.
