This is kind of an amusing story on a Japanese city council where one female council member has gotten into trouble several times. The first time was when she brought her 7-month-old baby into the council chambers last November (she wanted to be able to breastfeed him in the chambers, or get the city to start providing daycare services for council members but was rejected on both requests).
Now, she's been thrown out of the council for having a cough drop lozenge in her mouth.
"Yuka Ogata was speaking at the podium when the chairman, Shinya Kutsuki, asked her if she had something in her mouth. She explained that she was sucking a lozenge because she was suffering from a cold and did not want to disrupt proceedings by coughing repeatedly."
At the point, the rest of the city council session was suspended while the other assembly members tried to figure out how to punish her. They ended up drafting a letter of apology for her to sign and read in public, which she refused.
“It is unacceptable for a responsible adult to ask questions with a cough drop in their mouth,” said the mayor of Kumamoto, Kazufumi Onishi, according to Kyodo News. “She needs to admit that she was at fault.”
