Anyone know about this?
I saw the info when it was first announced, but I didn't make specific plans because of the Astros playoff schedule. But now the the Astros game time has been announced, it looks like I could make both.
Are you planning to go?

Don’t think so. Just hadn’t seen anything about it before today.

Exhibitions like this are almost always played indoors so that they are invulnerable to weather.

Ok, but usually on indoor tennis courts, not basketball courts.
Interesting that Autry can be converted to a tennis court.

I Think Chris Everett played a match at what ever we called the gym back in the 70s. It was pretty cool, and typical, did not jazzed about it until she hit big time.

True! I watched it. It would have been in 1972 or earlier. I also remember seeing Chris Evert's younger sister, Jeanne, at that event as well. My searches, however, have not been able to find any report of the event, however. I'd originally thought that it was an exhibition of sorts ... but I'm also wondering if it might have been a rain-caused, moved-indoors match of the River Oaks clay courts tournament.

I think the match was Chris Everett and Cliff Richey vs. Harold Solomon and Nancy Richey. It was an exhibition.

When you see an indoor tennis match (e.g. Davis Cup) on TV, do you think it’s a tennis-only facility?

Well done, InterestedX!! Great find.
I see that the article also mentions Chris Evert's uncle, Jerry, who was the pro at the Houston Racquet Club at that time. An article in a 1977 edition of a Little Rock, Ark., area paper (that I'd found in my unsuccessful search for reports on the exhibition) said that Jerry is the father of Jay Evert ... who, after he transferred from Southern Illinois, was a three-year tennis letterman at Rice (1978-80) and two-time Giammalva Award winner (mens tennis team MVP), 1979 & 1980. Jay and Chris Evert are first cousins.

I don't know if it is or not. All I said was that it was surprising and interesting that Autry could be converted to a tennis court. If that makes me an ignorant fool, than so be it.

It can be converted as readily as the Toyota Center, which is where similar exhibitions in Houston have been held (like Serving for Tsunami Relief back in 2005).

The court looks good, though it seems a bit tight behind the baseline.

RE: Tennis at Tudor?
Beyond the facility rental fee, does any of the spectator/event-package revenue for this match benefit Rice and/or Rice athletics?
