I don't think I have ever seen a team struggle so much with 3rd downs on both sides of the ball.

Liberty Game: 3rd down efficiency Offense (3-16) Defense allowed (5-13)
FIU Game: 3rd down efficiency Offense (3-13) Defense allowed (7-16)
Charlotte Game: 3rd down efficiency Offense (5-11) Defense allowed (9-17)
VT Game: 3rd down efficiency Offense (5-15) Defense allowed (4-14)
ECU Game: 3rd down efficiency Offense (3-16) Defense allowed (7-18)

Total: Offense is 19-71 (26.7%) Defense gives up 32-78 (41.0%)

This probably the biggest reason why we don't win games. We are killing ourselves on 3rd down.

Whenever it's 3rd and 8+ on defense I just brace myself for the inevitable first down. Feels like 3rd and long is one of our biggest weaknesses.

We've almost never been able to get off the field on 3rd downs against half-way decent teams. 10 effin' years. It's ridiculous.

That 4th and 10 we gave them when a stop would have practically won the game was nearly as painful as the 4th and 29 we gave to Towson.

This is especially annoying and I think should be used as a bench mark in grading Wilders performance.

He brought up 3rd down efficiency as a point of emphasis this August.
