Graeter's will never rebrand the Buckeye Blitz, nor should they, but they could do more for their hometown school.
FYI, for those flipping out over the Buckeye Blitz flavor, Graeter's has had that one for years and have had older packaging featuring the OSU mascot. The issue started when they announced new packaging for the flavor during UC/OSU game week and a lot of people mistook this for a release of the flavor altogether.
That's why I'm confused by a lot of the outrage of that flavor even existing...it has been around for multiple decades now
I'm guessing it's a combination of many people not realizing this was an actual flavor with actual ties to Ohio State, the extremely poor timing of the new packaging reveal, and good old 2019 internet outrage/mob mentality.
You keep forgetting requiring the team to do something they have a very slim chance to do. Why such a task? They did the same bull**** last year with a 40k retweet thing too. They just don't know how to advertise
Oh no, I get that part...it's the people complaining about there being a "Buckeye Blitz" flavor in the first place who are the ones I don't understand.
I dont think it was the "buckeye blitz" people really care about. Its the announcing of it 4 days before UC plays at Ohio State, and then doubling down and saying...hey you want a UC branded Ice cream? Beat a team that is supposed to go undefeated every year

BUT. I have also been saying for years that Graeters is overrated. So ive never really had an allegiance to them. Ive always thought UDF is better. Ive never gotten the hype for black raspberry chip, but im also not a fan of chocolate chips
Eh. they Hype is real. I've never enjoyed ice cream more than Black Raspberry Chip from Graeters. I try others, and it's all meh. Plenty of delicious ice cream out there, but Graeters Black Raspberry Chip is still my favorite by far. To each their own though.
I'm of the belief that Graeter's and UDF (Homemade brand) are both quality products, but not competing ones. Graeter's is a super premium product--the Lexus to UDF Homemade brand's fine Toyota, or, pick your analogy.
Having said that, the Lindner family has donated tens of millions of dollars to our University of Cincinnati. I do my best to support their businesses and those of other local corporations that strengthen UC.
I have no idea what, if any, support Graeter's has provided to UC. I never really understood their "tasting" event at UC that was never followed by the introduction of a UC branded retail product. Seems to me any company has downside risk of alienating a customer segment when their product gets tied to a particular University.
I do know you wouldn't find any blue ice cream in a carton labeled Musketeer Madness in my freezer, ever, regardless of how it might taste.

I also understand that there are more OSU fans out there than Cincy fans. What they should have done, though, is "pint" both, make a competition of how much of each they sold and donate to each school's scholarship fund. Instead, they decided to make a stupid comment about if UC wins, then they will pint their flavor. I love Graeters but this wasn't a good PR move to alienate customers in their hometown. People vote with their wallets a lot these days.

I am well aware that Buckeye Blitz has existed for a long time, I think most of the outrage came over Graeter's twitter post informing UC fans that they will only sell Bodly Bearcat if UC wins the game. Putting a condition out there came across as d-baggery of the highest level. The tweet came across with the same condescension that Stan Gable gave the Nerds when he informed they could only join the Greek Council after they won the campus-wide Olympic games*
*For you young people this a reference to the 80s movie Revenge of the Nerds.
I'm with you 100% on your point, sir.
However, in the interest of properly educating the younger generation...
The nerds first tried to get the alpha betas in trouble, but only the president of the greek council could call a vote.
You could only get on the greek council by having a national charter.
You could only get to be president of the greek council by winning the greek games.
BREAKING NEWS: Graeter’s Boldly Bearcat ice cream, introduced last fall to celebrate @uofcincy Bicentennial, will be available in its own commemorative pint. Coming January 2020.

Do NOT try Elena's Blueberry Pie flavor if they rebrand it to Musketeer Madness or you may literally have to eat those words... #bestnonchipflavorever

How dare you, sir. How dare you.
Just kidding. But I never could understand paying $5 for 2 scoops when you can get a whole quart for $4 at Krogers. Only time I ever go out for ice cream is my anniversary, and that's just a tradition because we got our wedding cake from Cold Stone.
It's actually only a pint rather than a quart and its regular price is $5.49 @ Krogers but your point is taken.

Black Cherry Chip is pretty delightful too.
But...Give me Jeni's any day.
Well, lookie here at doss jr with the big bucks. Jeni's makes some good stuff but overall is overrated and very overpriced. at $8.99 a pint @Krogers. Don't ask me how I know so much on this topic.

Good catch--had it yesterday and it's awesome! That would certainly test my resolve!

This issue took on a life of its own thanks to passionate Bearcat football fans. It's exciting to have UC football to rally around in this town. For the universities that don't, enjoy following the Bengals the next couple of months.

Glad to see Boldly Bearcat will be distributed in pints regardless of tomorrow's result.
But, despite being an unabashed Bearcat fan, I must admit: Hole. Lee. She. It. Buckeye Blitz is GOOD!!!
Glad to see references in this thread to my favorite ice creams of all time: Cherry Cordial from UDF, Graeter's Buckeye Blitz & Black Raspberry Chip, and any of Jeni's weird stuff (especially Queen City Cayenne!).
