RE: Homecoming Attendance
I think the band is much improved. Still work to be done as in Shank Pavilion on the east side they are difficult to hear at times (always playing to the west side). Not sure how to pipe them through our new sound system but there must be a way. Agree that the vocalists have been completely unheard from our side of the stadium.

Up in the Shank...cant hear the vocalist at all.
I think adding the vocalist is just a weird move for a marching band.

RE: Homecoming Attendance
Still can't hear the band at halftime. Pregame and in-game performance seem better. Would like to hear some of the older fight songs in the pregame routine to mix things up a bit.
Sound system is way too loud and our seats are no where close to the scoreboard.
Thankfully they reversed the TUC reentry policy they had during the first game, which was no reentry.

Alabama refuses to play outside of its bubble and won't do home and home series. Attendance will continue to be an issue as nobody wants to stick around to see Alabama pummel a WAC,CUSA,Sun Belt or MAC school.

They will not change until they are forced too by the playoff selection process. So far this approach is working just fine for them. Since schedules are made so far in advance we may be talking about this over the next 15 years.

Students have the lowest investment in tickets so they are the first ones to bail on bad games. It happens everywhere. As long as the tickets are sold the issue of them not being used is probably pretty low on the list.

I think you mentioned OSU's scheduling approach yesterday. One P5 home and home with two G5 home games. They tend to move the P5 game around regionally. I think this works the best most years.

Attendance is down across the board. Dare I say we're all just witnessing a shift in the appetite for live CFB? Seems like it

I'm not faulting Alabama's scheduling as it does work, but there should be no question as to why the student's bail. Don't insult the students because you choose to schedule low tier G5 opponents. Saben just needs something to complain about when his team rarely loses a game.

RE: Homecoming Attendance
Alabama kids don't care about their football team as much as we think. They care about the atmosphere, the frat tailgates, and the big games. If you're an 18 year old kid why on earth would you stick around for 4 hours to watch Louisiana Laffy Taffy and pay 7$ a beer (do they even sell beer there?) when your friends have already begun preparing for the night with fermented water that costs 50 cents/can?

You're 100% correct - he does love to complain and this is the perfect topic. Everyone knows it's just a BS soundbite but it eats up interview time.

The studens leave at every school. Heck I usually leave after the band if the game is functionally over.

Just not Bama kids. All college kids are there for themselves. Atmosphere, social event, place to be, and attention span drives their motivation. Once the game is no longer in doubt, heck sometimes it's still in doubt, they are heading onto the next thing on the agenda.

Wonder what ever happened to the mindset of going to see your team play? I am not a casual fan, so I go to see UC play, not the opponent. Growing up this was the mindset. Guess we are an "event" driven society now.

RE: Homecoming Attendance
I was browsing on Tulane's primary message board earlier and noted that they will be bringing very few fans for their alumni event-- they won't even fill up a row.

Another thing I noted in the same thread was that Tulane opens up student tickets for all their home athletic events to students at Xavier University of Louisiana (this is the school located in New Orleans, not to be confused with the school in Norwood, Ohio). Interesting concept... I wonder if we need to consider that for students at one of the local colleges (do we have such a deal with Cincinnati State/Tech or whatever it is called now?-- what about NKU, Thomas Moore or Mount St. Joe's?). This is not just football related, I am referring to all sports.

Do we have issues selling out the student section? Most times the student sections look pretty full at the start of the game.

I think the students do a great job for football-- I was actually expanding it out to other sports--- sometimes the students are lacking for basketball... and of course we always have opportunities for bigger crowds in the other sports.

If we are selling out the student section for football they could always consider expanding the student section or actually charging a couple dollars if there is such demand.

Unless they stopped... They do sell student ticket packages, but they keep a couple thousand available for free. I think it was $30 or $35 for the entire season when they started selling them.

Didn't UC Baseball give out tickets to local elementary schools for UC v osu baseball game this year? I remember reading it was the largest crowd in Marge Schott Stadium history. Why not for a low attendance fball game do something similar? Tie it to grades and honor them on the field at half. Help groom younger fans and the community outreach aspect is worth its weight.

Tulane... SMH...

I remember when Yulman opened and one of the Tulane fan(s) on the main, Conference board seriously argued that there was a HUGE crowd despite the pictures of all the empty seats; they were ALL in the stadium bar when the picture was snapped.

I think the hardest thing for Tulane to reckon with this weekend will be playing in front of more living bodies than empty seats. It's the reverse of what happens with Basketball when teams like UC go down to Houston and have difficulty playing in a quiet stadium. Tulane only has had to deal with one real crowd so far this season...at OSU...and I'm betting that has to screw with your head. Playing Memphis in front of empty seats? They're used to that. Those players are coming into a mostly sold out...and LOUD...Nippert. They really aren't used to that.

As to "opening" up events to other schools...I have a sweet spot for NKU after last season, but we're repaying their hospitality by playing them in BB at their place. We don't need to grovel any more.
