Really not smack talk, just pointing out, it looked pretty bad on TV at GSU.

What Troy game were you watching? Because the Troy / Coastal game was played in front of more empty bleachers than actual people. The side the camera pointed at was easily 75% empty.

From what many fans have said the visitor side (side that was on tv) was more empty than norm because it was so hot yesterday and the sun was beaming right down in everyone’s faces, most everyone was on the home side.

And most the students left at halftime

I concur, I sat on the visitor's, upper deck in the 1st qtr. The wife and I had to move to the home side. It literally felt like we were sitting in an oven. It was HOT!

Attendance week 5
I think Georgia State might be little off on that figure.
There is no way there were that many people.
Maybe 1400, but not 14,000
I'm not poking fun, it's really sad.
I feel sad for them.

Don't waste emotion on things that don't matter. Don't be sad.

Sadly, Georgia State can't draw a crowd in downtown Atlanta, they can't even draw flies.

The previous two games had basically nobody in the upper deck, the ends of the home side were open. There were more students are the previous games but not by much.

I'm thinking we aren't getting an accurate student count.

Any idea on the reason? Does GaSo use scanners or hand clickers or some other manner to count students. I went in to Kidd Brewer with a student guest ticket as did my daughter. Out tickets were scanned. My daughter's SO got us the tickets, but I think even App students have to print a ticket or have an image on their phone that is scanned. I went in first and did not see what happened with the boyfriend but I am pretty sure he was scanned as well.

Now I am not sure if App only counts butts in seats and that may or may not include free passes (high school coaches, recruits, etc) or if it includes tickets sold. For students I assume it is only counting students that walk through the gate and are scanned since every student is essentially forced into buying a ticket with their athletic fees. The NCAA allows at least two manners (paid or butts in seats) but even that is not so clear as it could be when it comes to free passes.

Does the band count since they are in seats? But if the band counts then why not the dance team and cheerleaders, but they are not in seats? I bet there was 60 cheerleaders and dance team members at KBS yesterday. I tried counting as I noticed there seemed to be more than previous years.

Personally I think they should count everyone in the stadium that has a view of the field so that would include spectators in the stands, band, cheer squads, both teams, coaches, refs, medic crews, crowd control staff and if it is possible to see the action live for at least one play then also concession sales. If you could truly say you were there then you attended. Selling a ticket to someone helps the budget but if they stay home then they did not attend. Regardless of how or why you entered the stadium if you were there you were there. Count it.

Cheerleaders wouldn't count since they are on the field I'm sure.

Good question about band.

I imagine that is the case for cheerleaders, but all the reason to just count everyone.

If you have a pulse and you are inside the stadium fence then you are counted. If you are outside the fencing even if in view of the field then you are not counted. If you don't have a pulse anywhere then you are not counted.

You’re pretty good. However, the announced number means nothing in the grand scheme of things. It’s not what is reported to the NCAA.

RE: Attendance week 5
Someday...someday...we will be good in this area. We started at absolute zero for a fan base...and that includes all sports. Football has been mostly atrocious, and we've been especially putrid at home. We seriously need five-plus winning seasons, a couple of conference titles, some signature P5 upsets, etc., to get the ball rolling on attendance. We need more students to have good experiences with football, and then we need graduating class upon graduating class to start identifying with GSU football and to be excited about the product on the field.

Even if we start winning big, it might be 10 years or more before we start to approach the attendance that the top teams in this conference get. Just realistically.

In the meantime, we get to see umpteen posts per week from Georgia Southern fans about our attendance because they don't have crap to say about 3-1 and it burns them up inside.

I'm so glad we're showing a pulse again on the field...the prospect of getting to 4-1 over these people keeps me going.

GaSt, do you guys have any P5 ho,emgame som schedule that might get people in the stadium? When we have had those, it has helped tremendously if only for that game, it still helped.

We have Army twice at home (did we get 2 for 1 deal??? we will only travel to Army once), but casual students dont care about Army. same with ECU.

The Memphis game might draw well if they continue to play exciting football.
We have UNC and Vanderbilt at home. Maybe those games will sellout??

bottom line is, until we win 8-10 games regularly, and look good on ESPN against the likes of NCST and Memphis, there are so many awesome things to do in Atlanta than watch SunBelt football. Not a dig at SunBelt but just the way of city life.

For GSU's game what difference does it make how it looked on TV? It was aired on ESPN+ so the only people watching were those vested in Georgia State or the Sun Belt.

win against GS = another year of peace and quiet from Southern fans

This is the only reason why I want our winning streak to continue against Georgia Southern.

Cheerleaders and football players/coaches do not count. Band members can count if they pay an athletic fee.
