Could Georgia Southern be this year's Fresno State?
2016 - Fresno State was 1-11. Then Jeff Tedford is hired and the next year they are 9-3. Nine wins might be a little steep for us to reach, but we can still very much have the same kind of dramatic turn-around that they did if we keep Werts healthy and don't lose any more offensive linemen. We can lose to Troy and App and one other conference game and still be 8-4. I'd take that for sure.

We have three games until App and six until Troy. Lots of time to get better. Probably 14 point dogs to App and 7 to Troy by game day if what I am seeing holds. ESPN actually has us as favorites against Troy now.

Our fans will not settle for anything less than to be neck and neck with the top or you get fired in less than two years. I'll take any of the bad that comes with that all day long rather than letting a mediocre coach putter along for three or four years in hopes it just clicks one day.
This is not Idaho the best talent at your fingertips, no excuses.

Defense is lagit. The O still a bit shaky. Werts is looking more confident but the play book is too limited to make a call on the remainder of the season. One observation. GS is noticeably bigger and faster than in the previous two years. Despite the record recruiting has been nice. Athletes make the difference. It's fun to see apposing fans, particularly the Ark state fans harping on the type of offense we run as peewee league or whatever. We could run the peewee version of the wishbone but if my guys are bigger, faster, and better than your guys there's a good chance we can win. We looked bigger faster and better than Ark state. It didn't translate on the board though and that's a concern. The T/O gives us zero advantage against the likes of CrAppy and in time most everyone else. But again if my guys are better than your guys it makes little difference but provides a nice tool for coaches to blame the ars whoopin on.

here's the thing, if we only lose to app and troy from here on out, that is still 9-3 regular season record. That is an insane turnaround in 1 year. Now, do I think that will happen? eh, not sure. If we continue to improve as we have since CL took over last year as interim, we will have a chance to upset Troy or App, but I don't think we will be at the level when anybody neutral would pick us to win both. And we could still lay an egg against a USA/ULM, NMST bc of travel, or, as we've shown we are capable of doing, and dropping a game against ga state. Still too many unknowns. OL is a weak point and must improve if we are to get to 7 or 8 wins and win a bowl game. But even then, a 7 win regular season, and maybe even a bowl win is a massive turnaround year 1 for CL.

It is weird getting a real leader as HC, a legit OC, DC and strength coach almost seems to have a positive affect or something. Now they do their part in recruiting and we might have something.

We're not expecting to lose to App and Troy in Statesboro....The Power of Paulson is becoming special again!
RE: Could Georgia Southern be this year's Fresno State?
I'm interested to see how our team handles success. We can't afford to overlook any of the remaining teams on our schedule. Outside of Troy, App, and Ga State, I'm concerned about South, ULM, and Coastal. All three of those games will be a challenge, and if we aren't prepared, it will end badly.
RE: Could Georgia Southern be this year's Fresno State?
I don't see a team left on our schedule that is unbeatable. I expect us to go in there to win them all but I know we will probably still stumble. We may win another one the prognosticators say we shouldn't but lose to a team no one would expect us to. #FunBelt

If I had to bet right now I say we go
2-0 against TXST and NMSU
2-1 against USA, ULM, and CCU
1-2 against App, Troy, and Ga State
RE: Could Georgia Southern be this year's Fresno State?
As long as we quit dropping games to Gast (they were the better coached team the last two seasons) and beat Troy or App then I'll be extremely happy with this season.
