Isn't that illegal as well? I don't think the licensed passenger can text either while they are riding with someone on a permit?

Driving laws are governed by the state as far as I know, but I would venture to grasp even further into legality vs illegality and offer the following equation: texting teens are more deadly than the elderly who are more deadly than drunk drivers. Replace "more deadly" with >.

Numbers indicate that distracted causes more fatal accidents than drunk driving. That's for sure. However, distracted driving isn't just a problem for teens.

This is great! Your probably right, if it’s not illegal ,it should be. I’m pretty sure I lost some years off my life from Hendersonville to Asheville today .

Yeah it was ageist for me to say teens, but you get the point.

Without getting too deep into the laws, my wild guess is that it's illegal almost everywhere for a teen to text and drive. (In Arkansas, they can't even answer their phone)

It was more of a question of the laws regarding the licensed passenger of someone on a learner's permit. By definition, you are supposed to be teaching your daughter how to drive, and would be the ultimate party responsible if she is in an accident. It made me curious whether or not the passenger had similar laws to follow even though they weren't actually behind the wheel.

I hated driving from Henderson to Asheville the one time I had to do it, and I've been driving for longer than your kid has been alive, so I can understand your fear.
