Couple years ago we had Wylie, Gardner, etc. and a departed OL coach (think it was Ryan Gruff).

Last two years we have different offensive linemen and a different OL coach.

Either the players or coach or both aren't getting it done. That said, the OL coach/run coordinator does have a good resume.

Not sure I would point blame at the OC.
With the poor OL play I am not sure how much Eriksen would have helped but he is out with a knee. He had minor surgery and will be out a few weeks. I know this because he sat in the stands right in front on me.

Thanks several of us were wondering why he wasn't out there.

14,800 was the attendance

We had the fight but didn't have the focus or the finish.

RE: Game Day: NIU
Sometimes I think we forget that there are two teams in these stories. Despite NIU’s “struggles” their defense has held its own against some very good competition. I give a lot of credit to NiU’s defense for making it as difficult on our offense as it did. That pains me to say as a number of the NIU fans are so big headed they wouldn’t know what a compliment was even if it hit them in the face.

However, let’s also give our defense a lot of credit for how they handled this game as well. For as much as the offense struggled, that defense in the past would have given up a big play or two and wouldn’t have given us a chance to come back. They fought and fought until the very end.

Even our kicker who had about as an up and down of a night as you can as a kicker showed a lot of heart and resilience in this game. Plus I would like to think it’s a lot harder to kick in Ypsilanti vs San Diego.

Trust me, I’m right there with everyone else about this team’s results being frustrating. Going 0-6 in overtime under Creighton is an absolutely incredible statistic. However, this team against the others in the MAC has such a razor thin margin that will typically determine whether they will win or not. The coaching staff has done an amazing job where this team is in every single game they play which is light years ahead of where we were just 3 years ago. I for one don’t miss the days of NIU coming in to Ypsilanti and winning 73-7.

I just have a feeling once this team gets one of these games to go their way, the results will snowball to the positive. It’s just that the key decision in each game has just come up negative each time. In a couple weeks I will be getting an opportunity to finally get to a home game this year against Toledo. For the first time maybe ever, I’m not dreading that matchup as I’m confident it will be a close game and hopefully a win.

Speaking of focus, I knew we were off to rough start when even the bald eagle should have been flagged for personal foul. Not to mention I believe our first play from scrimmage was a penalty. I believe that has happened every game this year.

RE: Game Day: NIU
just a note on the offensive line, the vast majority of OL and starters were recruited by the previous OL Grubb, this is Meadow's 2nd season we had a great offensive line last year to rank 2nd in the MAC and 28th for fewest sacks nationally of course that was with Roback and his quick release and experienced WRs. I also point out that the 2018 frosh OL class I would regard as the best pure frosh OL (Howie, Dooley Saddler and Johnson) as one of the best classes at that position in a long time. And we have two 2019 verbals that look impressive. Maybe its not the OL but the fact that Wiegers unlike Roback doesn't have the mobility or the quick release and hence holds the ball longer and can't get out of trouble. I think Roback helped the OL look better last year. I can't explain why the run game is crap as Meadows is also the run game coordinator. Food for thought. Glass might be a better match for this offensive line.

Start Glass and give Grissom 10 plays, we've got a totally different offense. Vann looking good again.

We'll be lucky to win 6 games if we march that same group and scheme out there the rest of season. 242 yards total offense......17/40 passing, less than 70 yds rushing.

I wouldn't say Miami is very good, but the jury's still out on how "bad" they are.

Their 3 losses were to Cincinnati (5-0), Marshall (3-1), and Minnesota (3-1). All of those teams would have a good shot at winning the MAC.

Agree that no one from EMU should call another MAC team "bad" when we look at our overall conference record and yes' I'm preaching to myself. Everygame from here in out will be decided by 7 points or less.

Crumb, to be honest I would consider Creighton's record in OT games to be 0-7 as the Army loss last year resulted from a failed two point conversion that was made to avert overtime. It is indeed amazing!

I, like many others was incredibly frustrated after the loss last night. You are correct about NIU, they may not be great but they were good enough to be picked as the preseason MAC West Champions. NIU has a tradition of winning football, they have been a Group of Five team to
play in a New Year's bowl game. EMU, on the other hand does not. Perhaps as you say EMU just needs to break the ice once and the tide will turn. As pissed as I was after the game last night, I do realize that we are in a far better place than we have been in a long, long time. The Hewitt west parking lot was at capacity last evening, something I have not seen in 25+ years for a non-homecoming game. There is a sizable amount of pent up demand for EMU to be successful again.

One thing I truly would like to see is updates on player status. The Ann Arbor News, as we once knew it is gone and there is no media outlet reporting on the team. In the stands I was clamoring for Glass to play QB and I find out later that he was injured. I did not see Ericksen at all and I wondered what had happened to him. Why was Max on the sidelines at the season opener? Other than Ken Barna we have little insight to what is truly going on outside of game day within the EMU program. I know there are some competitive disadvantages with disclosing this information but it is extremely fan unfriendly. Time for Eastern to do something on their website.

From what you read on other MAC sites, it seems EMU is no different than any other team. All fans of these teams are pretty much left in the dark.

Don't expect that to change.

The problem is teams don't like to and shouldn't reveal injuries.

I think sometimes they play 'strategic games' by dressing a player coming off an injury who isn't ready to play.

I'm not sure if that was the case with Glass but we and presumably NIU were prepared for him to play.

Thanks several of us were wondering why he wasn't out there.

Sounds like arthroscopic for a torn meniscus. Chad and Rob were discussing.

I've had several. Recovery for athletes is incredibly only a few weeks to allow the incisions to heal.

In 2005 I had one during summer. Stopped running for a month or two. resumed and ran a 5K in November and had some swelling. Never had swelling again. (this knee is my 'good' knee today).

I may be totally off base here but after winning a lot of close games in 2016 and losing a bunch in 2017 and this year, I was wondering what was the difference in team make-up. The coach is the same, Roback was the QB last year, so what was the variant?

Having watched most EMU football games in those years, I noticed that EMU football had a true leader in that 2016 and that was Pat O'Connor. I think Jeremiah Harris was better that year playing opposite OC than he is now. Max is a better defensive end than Pat but was suspended for the first game, hardly the behavior of a leader. Just my observation, feel free to disagree.

Those lucky wins in 2016 were Roback throwing up prayers and them being answered at the end of games by our WR's. POC was standing on the sidelines with everyone else in disbelief as we pulled out those games. Not sure leadership had anything to do with it, although they also had 4 other Senior OLinemen that may have had a positive influence in the offensive huddles as those games came down to the wire.

As far as Jeremiah, he's still working his way back from major knee surgery.
