C-USA teams with indoor practice facilites
Almost half of the conference has something in the works or already completed. ODU needs to be in the top half not the bottom half of this conversation. An indoor practice facility is a must. If my donations are not going to the stadium they better be going to a new football practice facility.

North Texas - Coming soon

MTSU - Planned/in the works

WKU - Planned/in the works

Marshall - Completed

UAB - Completed

Charlotte - Nothing

Southern Miss - Nothing

FAU - Planned athletic complex

FIU - Nothing

Rice - Nothing

La Tech - Nothing

UTEP - Nothing

UTSA - Nothing

It is a must ! Over and above the new stadium, we must fund through donations a new top of the line scoreboard on par with Liberty and a practice facility. I just can't imagine having a brand new football stadium and having a mediocre scoreboard. That would be like remodeling your house (new living room, kitchen, bathrooms, and new furniture) and not putting in a new entertainment system in your living room. Does not make sense.

WKUs isn't happening.

And I'm not sure I would call UABs an indoor facility. It's a covered facility.

Even more reason to do ours ! It does not need to be top of the line or elaborate. Just needs to have shelter.

Indoor practice facility or north end zone completion? Where are the resources best spent?

Endzone. It'll help bring in more revenue, allowing us to build more in the future in a shorter time frame.

Also, MTs indoor facility is part of a master plan. No money has been approved. No real designs have been made. FAUs is more likely, but still is a part of phase 2 for that facility. So no guarantee that ever gets built either.

Notice how WKUs indoor facility was tied to its sports medicine program and also doubles as a rec center for students. Thats the type of innovative thinking ODU needs to have for funding an IPF. Build an "intramural flag football" facility with some classroom/lab space for the physical therapy dept etc. That way many of the funds come from a different bucket.

WKUs idea was decent. But it was executed so poorly, they'll probably never get one built. And it really couldn't have gone worse for them, they actually pushed one of their local providers to partnering with UK because of this.

It just sucks that we don't have room. If we had two full practice fields I could see it but the FH/LAX field isn't going anywhere and the high school field just got renewed. One fully indoor field and another field that is 2/3 full may not work, but then again if they really want it I'm sure they can get it

Get the city to put a little money into Powhatan, move FH to powhatan, build the IDPF over the existing FH field and tie it to the rest of the LR Hill Complex. That would be a really nice facility.

That was what I was thinking. But FH/LAX plays on the old school carpet turf, which high school football doesn't. That may pose an issue. Plus I heard they're going to do some renovations to Powhatan field anyways to make it nicer

RE: C-USA teams with indoor practice facilites
The way to go about this is put it on the field directly behind the Rec Center (across street from Powhatan Apts). Share it with the students. That way you can use State funds to build it (at least partially).

Football can get a time slot for 2 hours per day. They would probably only use it 25 or 30 days a year for team practices. Other days would be for player workouts, mostly in the offseason. Other teams get other time slots as needed (WSOC, MSOC, WLAX, FH, BASEBALL)
Students get it all other times.

Exactly....there are other ways as well.

An indoor facility would be AMAZING. However, if this occurs, FH/LAX will not be relocated. The only place that it will be is the Powhatan field (once ODU gets 100% of the ownership..but who knows when that will happen). Trust me..the only thing that will make it happen in less than 10+ years, is a couple of conference championships/bowl wins, along with several games like last weekend....not holding my breathe.

ODU and the city just signed a 20-year extension;

Instead of an IPF how about an IAF (Indoor Athletic Facility)? If the city can kick in some money why can't you install seating for 1500 to accommodate high school football, middle school football, and ODU. We get it before 4pm for practice they have it after for athletic events. If it's too expensive would the UAB model work over Powhatan? Would anybody be in favor of a pavilion if the IPF is a no go?

Seating for 1500 would be a potential spot for the CUSA basketball tournament too!

Wasn't there a plan to move the Facilities Management Building to the area by the district?

That plot should fit a full field.

I like the UNT stadium quite a bit, and they seem to be having a lot of success with their facilities upgrades. I'm sure they're trying to position themselves for a MWC/AAC move if another shakeup occurs (like the rest of us). Their current success and those facilities will help boost their argument for inclusion.
