UNT is about to leave us in the dust with this.

I like the UNT stadium quite a bit, and they seem to be having a lot of success with their facilities upgrades. I'm sure they're trying to position themselves for a MWC/AAC move if another shakeup occurs (like the rest of us). Their current success and those facilities will help boost their argument for inclusion.

“Showing people your vision is empowering and allows them to be an active participant and ambassador,” Baker said. “Not only are they aware, they have the information at their fingertips to share with others.”

One of many things that UNT has going for them is that they have a ****load of land to build on. I've been to their campus, it is WIDE open. With ODU's budget and fundraising, if ODU had that amount of land, we'd be having many different conversations.

UNT is merely trying to catch up.

Swimming facility is a waste of money.

Then again, they only sponsor 12 sports including low budget track and cross country.

We sponsor 19 sports.

I'll say it again 19 sports.

A ridiculous 19 sports.

You see this at the P5 level, in the G5 this is absurd.

Also, our player lounge is a joke. Should have turned the previous weight room into a players lounge.

Oh well, at least we're all set on the Basketball side.

Yes, some trimming could definitely help. There are a lot of budgetary dollars spread across many entities. I just don't see President Broderick & Wood Selig cutting any sports on their watch.

Things have changed for the worse since Selig said he wouldn't cut for football.

Time to revisit the topic.

If they do trim it will have to be men's sports because of title IX.

Some of our high $$$ donors back these non-revenue sports...If boosters pull funding, cutting sports could increase budget pressure rather than ease it...if AAC is the goal, a broader sports program is more appealing than a watered down version.

I would think AAC would value a balance between fiscal responsibility and a robust athletic program. We are currently lacking that balance and it is affecting our revenue sports negatively, which AAC surely would be more interested in. Being a CUSA powerhouse in football and basketball would carry far more weight than maintaining a Diving team.

RE: C-USA teams with indoor practice facilites
I think the AAC would be interested in being able to fill in more sports from full time members rather than having to rely on auxiliary teams (sorry don't know the real term) fill in those spots. Dress for the job you want, not the one you have?

I am still convinced we would be one of the better candidates for moving up, as is. We have a large metro area with very little sports competition (Tides and what else?) We are the marquee football and basketball program in the area. TV market is another thing, as it has failed miserably elsewhere with large markets (Charlotte), but again I think the lack of other competition in the area is what's going to be a driver. Not to mention our high school sports being one of the best areas. Oh yeah, ECU needs a natural travel partner and rival too.

Im not so sure ECU is going to want the added competition. Much like UVA didnt want VT in the ACC. I also agree that being great in the big sports will be much more appealing to the AAC than national championships in sailing and diving.

Do we really need the "mini" practice soccer field and 12 outdoor tennis courts? Take away the practice field and 4 courts, that would be a great location for an indoor practice facility.

That's the field for intramurals.

Well of course UTSA is getting an IPF, they don't have wrestling and only sponsor 15 sports.

Before you add them, you still have teams you need remove from your OP list.
