First of all, I agree that there are too many UNT threads right now and it is somewhat embarrassing to me. Win or lose, I am not an active poster here. But, I do check into this forum often ever since UNT joined CUSA. What I have noticed is that every year, when one of the teams here becomes dominant, the fans come out of the closet and go overboard. Then, when things fall apart, the same fans go into hiding.
This is mostly true of the schools that were part of the most recent expansion, including UNT.
As far as the average UNT attendance for this year goes, we have only had 2 home games. The first against SMU was a near sellout. The second was drastically reduced because of bad weather.
As a UTSA fan, there is one big advantage that you will continue to have over the others. That is the ability to play indoors. You won't every have to deal with bad weather days, which are frequent this time of year.
The fact is, most fans in this conference are literal fair-weather fans. When the weather forecast is poor (cold, windy or rainy), they find something else to do. So, consider yourself lucky that you have a domed stadium.
For me personally, I want to watch football the old fashion way outdoors, with the weather being a factor. But, I am not going to be able to drag my wife and kids to the game to sit in the rain for 3 hours. I will be at the game with my wife saturday. But, if it starts to rain, she will try and find a way to get out of it :(
This saturdays UNT/Tech game should be a near sellout. But, I bet that it is only around 24k to 25k because there has been a moderate chance of thunderstorms forecast for saturday night. This has been forecasted over the last week or more. That seems to be all it takes to knock the attendance down by a few thousand ticket sales. It's a real shame. But, that is life in CUSA and the other G5's.
Cheers.
