Remembering best home games
After Saturday's joyous victory, I started thinking of all the great times I have experienced at ODU football and basketball games and where the VT victory lands...Here's a few that I can remember:

Football
Saturday's victory vs. #13 VT
2014 home win vs. La Tech in OT
2011 home win vs. JMU in the rain
2012 home loss to Ga Southern....just a good game (playoff)
2016 home win vs. Marshall

Basketball
2009 Buzzer Beater vs GMU at home (Drew Williamson)
2009 win vs. VCU (white out)
2009 vs ranked #11 Georgetown at home
2010 back to back wins in one week vs VCU (home and at the spaceship)
2011 not a home game but the first win I witnessed in person vs VCU at the Costco
NIT Second and Third rounds at home (1 pt win to Ill. State and then "the shot")

So many more out there, but these are the ones that stand out for me...what great memories.

Which home victories (or defeats) stand out to you as being memorable moments in sports for you? What games have had an impact on your fandom?

Football: NSU playoff game is up there for me

Basketball: Not sure what year it was, but we beat VCU at home when they were ranked. Bacote shot out of his mind

2014 was when we beat #14 VCU. But the VT win was the best moment in school history!

Football - the UNH game where TH went nuts is #1 (only because I was there and not at the VT game).

I'd add the NH game. NH, JMU and VT are my faves.

RE: Remembering best home games
For me, it would be (in no order):

Football:
2011: JMU, I remember the ODU chants were deafening.
2011: Norfolk State Playoffs, incredible atmosphere, first playoff game and home AND win, and I love the cross-town rivalry. NSU fans/band/cheerleaders were excellent
2012: New Hampshire, because Heinicke
2012: The home game against Delaware when we practically played in a hurricane, even though I ran the "ODU" flags out of order and got threats for the rest of the season lol, being booed by 20,118 people was not fun but the actual game was awesome to be at
2012: Georgia Southern home playoff game even though we lost. It was a roller coaster and probably one of the best atmoshperes at a home game (bar the VT game)
2014: OT win over Louisiana Tech
2018: Beating VT 02-13-banana

EDIT: I forgot UMASS 2011. That was the fateful night DeMarco hurt his ankle and a young skinny freshman by the name of Taylor Heinicke saw his first action as ODU's QB :D

Basketball:
2009/2010: Beating VCU at home to stamp our ticket to the tournament, winning the CAA regular season outright, full, packed house with the Monarch Maniacs at their peak, nailbiting game til the end... I not only lost my voice but had a headache for days from the amount of yelling I did lol
2010/2011: Georgetown at home. I had a high school friend who played for Georgetown who shot the game-deciding 3 pointer to end the game (Jason Clark) but we played really well and had a chance to beat them, even til the end
2010/2011: Bracket buster against Cleveland State
2010/2011: I can't remember who it was against BUT THE FREE RAISING CANES GAME the place went wild when Trian hit the 3 haha
2014/2015: Home game against WKU, the atmosphere was incredible
2014/2015: The Trey Freeman buzzer-beater game
2016/2017: Kent Bazemore bobblehead night against VCU. We lost but the atmosphere was amazing. I loved seeing my favorite player as a student get enshrined in the ring of fame, and it was one hell of a game til VCU started to slip away at the end

I'm sure there are more that I can't think of off the top of my head

Basketball
Beat #3 Syracuse at Scope
Beat #8 Georgetown in DC
Beat #9 Villanova in Albany

Those are the biggest ones, although there were a lot of other big games along the way.

Damn I remember that Canes game like it was yesterday. Or at least the shot, with Trian's knowing smile. Too bad I was one year after graduation. Seeing all the students bolt for the door was awesome haha

It's funny, I was at that game too. But it was one year before I started classes! This game was actually the first ODU game I attended in-person.

RE: Remembering best home games
2009 Chowan -- First game, first win
2010 VMI -- Just made me smile (and my neighbor is a Keydet)
2011 JMU -- Sent the Dukes home with their tails between their legs
2011 Norfolk State - First playoff win in the Crosstown Showdown
2012 New Hampshire -- HEINICKE!
2012 William & Mary -- Just because, and son-in-law is an alum
2013 The Citadel -- Typical Heinicke win in a 59-58 shootout
2014 La Tech -- in OT, and it was sweet
2014 FIU -- Great game with game-winning FG as time expires
2015 UTEP -- A good win and payback for the hit on TH at UTEP in 2014
2016 Marshall -- loved every minute of it
2017 Charlotte -- An ugly game, but a 6-0 win when wins were scarce
2018 VA Tech -- 49-35 -- Still hoarse -- nuff said

In football, I would toss in the first W&M game, even though we lost due to a phantom facemask penalty. Very memorable.

In basketball, I remember when we hosted a pretty good Depaul team and blew them out by about 40 points. I don’t remember the year but I think it's our most recent meeting. It was one of those afternoons where we just could not miss.

Yes - that was a great game (last time we played them I believe...I would guess 2007 or 09...)

Also, similar type game, we got JMU late season one year in some kind of postseason tourney and beat them by a margin by about 40. Completely demoralizing.

I still believe three very big basketball games that were history making for ODU men

1) 1975 National Championship in Evansville, Indiana against New Orleans 74 Old Dominion 76

2) 1977 Slaughter of Georgetown at the Sold Out McDonough Center where ODU crushed the Georetown Hoyas 58 ODU 80 That year ODU finished Overall: 25-4 and we lost the last two games in order to Syracuse 87 ODU 64 followed by the NIT loss to Villanova in OT 68 ODU 61

2) 1980-81 DePaul Blue Demons ranked #1 in the Nation at the time of the game and Paul Webb's team defeated them on Sat Jan 10 ODU 63 DePaul 62
