Death Spiral at MT
That describes the current state of Middle Tennessee football. The declining attendance has already been well documented. Recruiting classes have been slipping year after year. I could probably have just hopped on the 2017 injury thread, but in addition to the Rick Stockstill era sucking the life out of the community's interest in the program our current situation looks like this...

Out Saturday...
Starting DE Render
Starting S Moffet
Starting S Blankenship
Starting RB Thomas (may be done for year)
#2 Running Back Mobley
Starting WR Windham (Actualy the WR situation is in such disarray 3-star freshman QB signee Luke Shiflett is now #2 on depth chart at the "Y")
Reserve DB Johnson

And these are just the ones I know about. Only three games into the season.

It's so bad in the Boro that the homer board has a collective average score prediction for the FAU game as:

FAU 40
MT 24

You hate to see kids get hurt. Many Marshall fans will tell you they feel that our program has become boring and not much excitement abounds. Hate it but a lot of programs seem to be having this issue. We only had 33K for NC State. Although it did rain, which it seems to for every MU home game - for the past 3-4 years. Ugh!

I think it's time for a new voice in Murfreesboro. Stockstill has done some great things for the Blue Raiders football program but I just think it's time for a change.

We are just spoiled, we kept waiting for Litton to be the next Cato, that didn't pan out, now we are waiting for Green and the offense to wake up, even though it shows spurts. We herd fans are going to have to be patient and let this team gel to the altered game plans, just be patient my man. We played 3 games, there are things to fix, some was bad but some is good. If we figure these lines out, we will be fine.

No, they are "DELUTIONAL". Litton was never going to be Cato, they both had a whole different kind of skillsets. If you can't understand and recognize that then something is seriously wrong with your judge of skill and talent.

We won a lot when we moved up to the MAC not because of coaching but because the MAC at the time was rated lower than the SoCon we came from. The year before we joined the MAC they had 4 teams with a winning record, this is what the standings looked like:

1996 MAC Football Standings
----------------------------------
Ball State 8-4 (7-1)
Toledo 7-5 (6-2)
Miami OH 6-5 (6-2)
Ohio 6-6 (5-3)
CMU 5-6 (4-4)
Akron 4-7 (3-5)
Bowling Green 4-7 (3-5)
EMU 3-8 (3-5)
WMU 2-9 (2-6)
Kent State 2-9 (1-7)

Marshall was just a head of the curve in having coaches and recruiting in place. When we joined the MAC not one of the schools had a recruiting coordinator nor did they actually go watch players at their schools. They all sent offers to players by watching tape on them.

If you are old enough to remember at least the 1970s or early to mid 80s then you are most likely grounded enough to understand what could be.

You aren't going to have 10+ wins every year. And if you can't appreciate that we have the highest bowl winging % of anyone with more than 10 Bowl games (11-2) and the longest bowl win streak as of right now at 6. Then you need to go find something else to do on a Sat night during football season.

The last several years there have been high expectations for the MT team. They always seem to quickly fade. Hate it for you guys.

And... basketball. From the top to the bottom so quickly.

Hope you guys can turn things around soon. Us Southern Miss fans have learned to start with low expectations and we aren't nearly as disappointed as the season progresses.

Stay on your meds dude. I typed nothing about anything you spewed in your diatribe. I said we had issues and our fan base is tired. It’s not about being spoiled. It’s about competing for a league title every year. Which we haven’t done. We have 1 title and 2 division titles in 13 years. If that makes you randy then good for you.

Basketball we haven't really gone from "top to the bottom." We have some vocal folks who think we won't have a winning record this year, but you never know. Football though... people don't give a crap, even less so than when Stockstill was still a bit new and people at least gave it a chance. Now we're lucky to have 10,000 butts in seats.

If you really want to see the full extent of our misery, our main forum (GoMiddle) is quite done with Stockstill except for a few who are less aggressively against him...

This must be very similar to all of the venom spewed at Bill Legg last year.

Ive yet to see a game won or lost on play calling. If the players execute the plays correctly then you keep moving the chains. Not every play down the field is going to be 15-20 yards, which is some of the problem with our fan base, they expect to have a explosive play every time the ball is touched.

Now Green might get to the point where he can have explosive plays but with Litton that was never the case. Sure he would throw the ball down the sidelines and let his WR go catch it but I could probably count on my fingers and toes the plays he had like the 1 in the New Mexico bowl where he hit Tyre Brady in the flat 35 yards down field.

Way to many people got to wrapped up in thinking Bill Legg was the problem and it got so bad the man finally resigned because of it. My question would be to all of those way to critical of Legg, what would you do if you kept hearing about you not doing a good job at work say if your job was based on how others done under you. But you knew you was doing a satisfactory job but those under you under preformed.

I was guilty of Legg bashing for a while until I realized that the OLine was just not opening holes up for the RBs and that Litton couldn’t look off a defender to save his life. Then I began affording him a bit more slack.

Looking off WRs is something Ive seen Green has already got down. He also has a nice progression rate, he doesn't stay with one receiver down the field.

My take on Litton was he was a more athletic version of what we would have got if Jimmy Skinner was the full time starter under center. Another QB I would have compared Litton to was highly touted Adam Black (Recruiting Class of 2002). Black was touted at the next great QB at Marshall after Leftwich but never played a down because of a ruptured ear drum that threw his equilibrium off so bad he couldn't steady himself. He left Marshall before the 2005 season. Black and Litton had about the same skillset.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

First Charlotte was complaining ad nauseum, and all they did was go out and win 2 of their first 4 football games, and be super competitive in a 3rd game (UMASS).

Then, ODU fans made it sound like their world was ending. So what happened? ODU goes out and beats 13th ranked VA Tech.

So, now it's MTSU's turn gripe and complain?

You'll have to pardon me if I find it difficult to believe anything you "CUSA East" guys are selling anymore. In fact, if things stay the course in CUSA East, FAU better watch out this weekend when they play MTSU.

No Black was orig from DC, played at the rival school where Leftwich came from but his HS Senior year moved to PA and that is where he was listed at.

Adam Black 247 Page (Knox PA)

You are thinking of duel threat QB Chris Smith. Recruiting class of 2007. Smith never lived up to the hype and was beat out by Mark Cann, Wesley Berdain and Brian Anderson. Smith was only at Marshall for the Spring of 2007, he didn't even come in the fall and try and win the job or move up the depth chart. He transferred to Tennessee Tech but never showed up on their roster.

Chris Smith 247 Recruiting Profile (South Point OH)

Marshall has had a ton of QB talent that never lived up to what they were suppose to be. Both Larry Harris and Mark Zban left the program when they got hurt and Pennington took over. Then there was Adam Black, not his fault though he was injured. Also Mark Cann and Wesley Berdain was never what they should have been. Zach Barnard out of Owensboro KY was a KY state player of the year who never could catch up with the college defenses. Then there was Clemson transfer Willie Korn who couldn't throw an accurate ball over 10 yards after he hurt his shoulder.

Im sure there are a few Im missing.
