Back to the spread offense?
I know we have some good running backs but man that was fun to see the passing attack and throwing the ball around the yard. We have not seen a performance like that in years.

Point is: Passing the ball opens up the run. I still think in most of the games left in the season we don't have much to lose so lets keep flinging it around the yard. With Blake's accuracy and everyone playing loose. This could turn into a fun year in most unexpected way!

I have missed the spread offense so much. It was a real joy to see those beautiful long passes and catches. Way more exciting and fun to watch. Keep that "nothing to lose" aggressive mentality going.

It's a matter of taking what the defense gives you. Bud Foster screwed up IMO. He had too many bodies "in the box" for too many plays and left his young cornerbacks to cover out big senior WR's without safety help.

And there were several times that we tried to run the ball on first down with 8, and sometimes 9, defenders in the box and went nowhere. Then on second and third down the defense backed up making it more difficult for us to pass.

But overall, we did a better job with play calling and did a tremendous job of executing. We can't expect to execute like that every game though. We can't afford to take any plays "off". The play calling, as well as the effort and execution has to be good on every play for us to be successful.

We proved that we have the on-field talent and ability to play well. We just need the play-calling, both offensively and defensively, to maximize our on-field strengths.

RE: Back to the spread offense?
LaRussa was masterful from the pocket. But he was incredible when he rolled out to extend plays. Not sure most of those third down conversions came from the spread as he made throws across his body and just found people on third and fourth reads.

Kid was so in a zone against a big opponent.

The play designs were no different, we ran the same offense. I think we did call more first down pass plays (which I'm in favor of). We aren't good enough running to just run every first down and we have to mix it up. Pass on run downs and run on pass downs. It was moreso taking what the defense was giving us, like you said. Teams are going to see this tape and refuse to play man press/blitz. So, we are going to have to figure out how to combat that. I think we see more passes in the seam, more Harper/Brown. And if we get a lead in the 4Q, we are gonna pound the rock with Jeremy Cox.

BL did a good job recognizing coverage, but it was pretty easy. When we went 2 TEs, they had the safeties play man. When we went with Fulgham/Duhart on one side, we had easy money to the slot WR matched up 1v1 with a safety.

We did a good job vs. a good defense, but it was also a good matchup for us. Lets see what type of defense ECU plays. Im still worried about our ability to run the ball (when the defense isn't gassed).

I also really want to see what this offense can do with Kesean Strong mixed in.

RE: Back to the spread offense?
We had to use the spread against VT to win due to the inexperienced secondary. We also used tight ends to suck up the defense to create one on ones out there. Our athletes performed!!

Not sure why this reminded me, but when BL spiked the ball before halftime...is that the first time we've had a QB take a snap under center?

Yeah, when I saw that, I was praying we didn't botch the snap.
Definitely not the first time we did that though. Maybe first for BL, but I'm sure we did it before.

We've done it before with BL, I actually think BL is the only QB who has gone under center for us with a sike and knee.

Maybe with DeMarco very early on, but certainly not since UMass, I believe.

EDIT: ok with BL before.
